Devon Rodney is allegedly the leader of the “Folk Nation” gang, which is also known as the “Six Tre Outlaw Gangsta Disciples Folk Nation.”
Seven other members of the gang also face a variety of charges including racketeering, murder, attempted murder, robbery, assault and more.
All of them could get life in jail if convicted.
Federal authorities say the Folk Nation gang committed four murders, three attempted murders two assaults and six robberies since 2008. They were based out of the Ebbets Field Houses in Brooklyn.
Authorities say a 10-year-old girl was shot in the neck by the gangsters as they tried to kill a rival. They also allegedly knocked over jewelry stores and set up robberies via Craigslist.
“Motivated by greed, the Folk Nation employed indiscriminate violence to destroy the lives of their perceived enemies. But their violence spread beyond the gang world into the streets and playgrounds of Brooklyn, and innocent bystanders, including a child, were caught in the crossfire,” said United States Attorney Lynch. “Terrorizing a community, this gang claimed its turf by force and robbed from businesses and individuals alike leaving a trail of victims in its wake.”
Charged are Yassa Ashburn, 28, also known as “Indio,” “Swirls” and “Swerve;” Haile Cummings, 20, also known as “Ruger” and “Rugah;” Geraldo Elainor, 21, aka “Gunny” and “Geraldo Casimir;” Daniel Harrison, 24, aka “Bones;” Ricky Hollenquest, 20, aka “Dancer;” Jamal Laurent, 22, aka “Tails” and “Gunner;” and Trevelle Merritt, 19, aka “Tiger.”
