Yo,

Story goes as following, my mates laptop won't turn on anymore.. not with battery or plugged into an outlet with/without battery.
All it does is show a purple battery light (which used to be blue?:|).
It's a Dell Latitude E5500.

Hope anyone can help, thank you ;)

Still does not really explain why it won't even boot when it's plugged into a power outlet, does it?

Seems like you need to repair the computer.
You should have insurance, so just give it to the store you bought it from and they should make it work.
If not then they will give you a new computer.

Battery is dead, its common in dell laptops and you may have to buy a new one.. unless their is some other problem with it

Try:

Taking out the battery
Put charger plug thingy in ( must be on )
Put battery back and try luck

( careful with all your houses lights going out xD)

I had a stupid sig.

Try:
*removing the plug from the wall
*removing the battery
*testing the charger with a voltmeter
*if charger works reattach it
*reattach battery
*power on?

We've tried all of those things, except for testing it with a voltmeter.
My mate wil leave the computer for the weekend, then we'll try again.

Hopefully it'll work by then...

Thanks for the replies ;)

Is it still in a guarantee? The charger may be faulty - happens often. Check for creases in the cable. Waiting won't really help  ;)

Could be power supply causing it. Better take it to service.

I've been reading some responses, and have been thinking about it myself.
My best guess is that the charger died and took the battery with it.. I believe it is still under warranty so that's not a problem.

But how could this happen? I mean.. aren't those things suppose to be secured against power surges and shit?
