Need help with DVD Ripping

Ok first of all I want to say this is not a topic about piracy, I use this for my own personal use.

I know how to copy DVDs into an ISO file, and then use those on another disk, but I want to be able to rip DVDs into MP4 or AVI format so that I can watch them on my ipod / cell phone.

Can anyone help me?

use total video conventer or a program like that to convert them to the formats you want

There are plenty of free apps that are about, I know many of them are automatically available with Linux Operating Systems, So perhaps they may offer them in for windows too? A few Google searches for them should help you find the answer!
