So basically, I see a lot of people have problems with their GTA games. (GTA:SA, GTA:VC, SA:MP, MTA:SA, VC:MP, and MTA:VC, GTA4, IV:MP)
Here are some tips you should check out so you can fix them yourself.PS: I Will keep this updated with problems you might encounter. Also, if I missed out on a solution, add it here and I will do my best to add it here.
I clicked on my GTA game and its not starting. This happens to a lot of people. They click on their game to start it, but it doesnt start. Especially GTA:SA, GTA:VC, and GTA:4. Its not a problem of your multiplayer game, such as VC:MP, SA:MP, or IV:MP. For GTA SA/VC, a really good thing to do is to delete your .SET file. This would be in default, My Documents/GTA Vice City User Files for VC and My Documents/GTA San Andreas User files. What it does it deletes your settings to default and it will boot up your game when you start it. If your GTA 4 wont start. You cant delete it, it still wont work. This happens mainly after you patch your game. To fix it, revoke your license in Program Files/Rockstar Games/Grand theft Auto 4 folder. Click on revoke license and it will tell you to reactivate and enter your serial. After you do that, install Games For Windows here
http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/download/. You will need it to load up your game.
I reinstalled my game, but i still have the problemIf you have been using your game for a little while and then your game gets messed up and doesnt work and you reinstalled it, it wont fix it. Your game exe will be reinstalled. What you do it after your Uninstall it, delete your WHOLE folder. For example, my San Andreas folder (Program files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas), delete it all and remove it from recycle bin. Then use a program to fix unused file extensions. The BEST program probably out there for cleaning is a program called "CCleaner". Its a tiny program with a great cleaning software. You can clean it, repair issues, and uninstall programs. I have been using it for years now to maintain a clean computer.
You can download it here
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner (Its free). After you uninstall, you run CCleaner and go to Registry, and then "Scan for Issues". You will most likely see a lot of unused GTA file extensions and just hit Fix issues. Click no on backup, and it will clean it. Then start a fresh install.
My VC:MP just shows "Connecting....."If you want to fix this, pay close attention. First of all, make sure you have the latest VC:MP client installed.
http://vicecitymultiplayer.com/When you download it, and then proceed to the installation, pay close attention. You need to change the install directory to where your GTA_VC.EXE is located (Program Files/Rockstar Games/ GTA Vice City). The it will work. If it denies your installation, then open the installation and it will install in here (Program Files/Grand Theft Auto Vice City). Not in the Rockstar Games folder. When you open it you will see the client exe and a few folders. Put those on your desktop and open up Program Files/Rockstar Games/ GTA Vice City.
The folders you put on your desktop need to be replaced on Program Files/Rockstar Games/ GTA Vice City. Then you delete the old VCMP client and add the updated one here Program Files/Rockstar Games/ GTA Vice City. Then open and have fun
