To whom this concerns,

Something I would like to see incorporated into the server is a real time speed check. What I mean by this is you follow someone and every few seconds or so it updates you on that players speed.  This would help tremendously with officers on duty to relieve us of typing out /speed # all the time while trying to keep up with others vehicle. Something such as activating a radar would be nice to see.  Hopefully this is something you guys can do and hasn't been mentioned before.

Thanks!

Actually, i would prefer something like /set radar. Which could be done only when the police officer is parked, and would show you the speed of every player in your sight without typing the command /speed for each.
Because IRL, as far as i known, onboarded speed radars cant record any vehicles speed while moving. It can only if the police car is parked. If you are driving as an officer, your own speed while you follow the "suspect" is the evidence.

Actually as far as I'm aware officers can check speed of traffic while driving. I've had this happened several times while driving.  I will be on other side of highway going a few over, then the cop will do a U Turn (cop was in motion @ speed limit time of detection).

You have to accept that you are not always right.

In Holland, the cops CAN actually measure speeds of vehicle whilst they're in motion. They do, however, need to start and stop the "measuring" by a few buttons.

What is messed up is your perception of IV:MP. Probably because they do not allow guys without balls there.

Q:   What is Moving Radar?

A:   This is a radar that will clock vehicles while the patrol vehicle is moving.  Typically, the targets are those approaching in the opposite lane of traffic but, depending on the radar model, can sometimes be used to clock vehicles going away from the patrol vehicle in the opposite lane or even moving in the same direction. These radars also "clock" the patrol vehicle by measuring the speed of the ground passing beneath the patrol car and interpreting this as the patrol speed. This speed is deducted from the closing speed of the target thereby giving its speed.

My words: So in other words, there are radars out there that use the speedometer (of the squad car) to calculate the speed of vehicles while the patrol car is in motion.

Other source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar_gun#.27Moving.27_radar_speed_guns

'Moving' radar speed guns

The above-described system measures the difference in speed between the target and the radar speed gun itself. The gun must be stationary to give a correct reading; if the gun is used from a moving car it just gives the difference in speed between the two vehicles. So a different system is used in radar speed guns designed to work from moving vehicles. In so-called "moving radar", the gun receives reflected signals from both the target vehicle and stationary background objects, such as the road, road signs, guard rails, streetlight poles, etc. Instead of comparing the frequency of the signal reflected from the target with the transmitted signal, it compares the target signal with the background signal. The difference in frequency of these two signals gives the true speed of the target vehicle.

So because this is a real system that is used by many officers in the field today, I feel it nesscary to add this to the Argonath RPG. It will not only add more realism, but help make it easier to fight criminals.

For this or any other commaand measuring speed the first thing to do is to check the reliabiltiy.
In most previous cases the speed measuring is too much influenced by interference from ping and server timers to be accurate.
Unless proven to be accurate, speed measuring will not be at disposal of law enforcement.

My bad, I knew this kind of radars existed, but it's a very expensive working tool. That's why I said:

in my country at least.
As a matter of facts, this kind of radars are way too expensive for our government, so the only radars police officers are equiped with are static radars or laser-gun radars.

There is a problem with this.  I've often times found myself in middle of typing "/speed #" and they've either A. Gone out of distance, or B. Can't be caught up to because of the time I took to type it out and verify. I'm by no means a slow typist either.  This is why I feel it to be necessary to incorporate a system that allows radar to always be on while officers vehicle in motion. The system could work by officer activating radar, then radar reads out speeds every so often of nearby vehicles, allowing officer to quickly react to speed violators.  Without this there will be more people who get away with speeding, which could cause car ramming and killing too.

A photo of a radar fitted into every police vehicle in Finland, including bikes.
Showing your own speed, the vehicle's speed in front and possible outcome of difference between.

As for the idea, not needed in my opinion and as Gandalf said, the reliability should be tested at first.

This will cause lag... I'd say you just park your car and /speed any coming cars. And then just simply pull them over. Opposed.
