I think more people are interested in the fact that Maxima is going to be the new queen, than that Beatrix is abdicating..
The only thing I don't like about this all is that queensday (or rather kingsday), will now be held earlier, there'll be a bigger chance on rainy weather..

Plenty of royal families still exist around the world and a number of them are made up of some great individuals.

Certain countries, like the UK and Netherlands have constitutional monarchies, while absolute rule has been lessened.
But most of the time their role is uncodified and still met with the same reverence, doesn't take away the fact that it's not a "monarchy". :P
