Advice for a logo maker?

Does anyone know a completely free logo maker for a group I am creating? Most of them scam you with hidden fees at the end.

This is another basic logo (text) creator: http://www.grsites.com/generate/category/1/

You can actually create some pretty decent looking logos by just using Microsoft Word or Powerpoint. If you see a font that you like (or say, some unique company font from the real world), search the font to see what it is and whether it can be downloaded. You can download it (usually as a WinRAR file) then choose the font text document and install it to the system, so the next time you go on MS Word for instance, you can type in that font.

Combine this with some symbols, maybe overlapped, with object/shape effects like shadow, fade etc. to create a fairly straight forward, but clean cut look.
