I love the new chat. It's pretty useful and well made. I only notice a small difference in page loading time.
Def, do you want a new feature to be removed because your internet is slow?

Why is it hard to understand that he (or anyone else) may not want the chat because he doesn’t need it? I don’t have any problems with loading the chat, but would really like it if I could turn it off in my profile instead of adding filters to AdBlock, and this is simply because I find no reason to use it over Skype or even private messages, not because my internet is slow.

The new chat is awesome, and shouldn't be removed because some people have a shit computer, shit connection or both, upgrade people.

It's good because you don't have to wait hours to receive a personal message back from someone, because they with see what you've wrote to them for sure.

It's rather annoying, especially since it loads with every tab you open, and spams you 3-4 times whenever a message is received.. (but I guess that's nothing we have control over)

As Def said, it should be optional indeed.

It's a pain in the ass when accessing from an Android. I turn to offline but every time I close and re-open the forums it shows up again, and it just pops up infront of everything...Just bring back the old chat where you like pushed some "chat" option from above(Home/Forum/Help/Search/etc./Chat/etc).

The only thing is that the chat is not needed on topics but only on home page!

New chat works for online people only, doesn't magically use ESP to communicate to offline users. Forum PMs are delivered instantly, depending on settings a notification can be sent to the user upon inbox. Don't know where your logic comes from, but its wrong.

If someone is offline the message will still pop up in their face when they actually do log on, as it says when you post to someone who's gone offline.

As with earlier attempts, the main issue remains the load on MySQL database. While we run our own servers, still it is a noticeable slowdown for all pages, which is why it has been removed for now.

Addressing server-side issues by blaming the clients. Pretty good.

Yea, it completely crippled the forum, making it nearly unusable. Glad it's down for now.

All instant messaging programs also work this way, as does SMF itself with PM notifications.
