Laptop Problem

Alright, so anyway. I have to try get a laptop running its an HP 4515s.

When I turn it on, it passes the BIOS and gets to a black screen with the "_" flashing in the top left hand corner, and yeah.. That's as far as it gets.

So I went looking through things in the BIOS settings, and it gave me an option to test the PC's hardware, its called "Start up Test" or something like that. Anyway, it passes all the tests BESIDES ONE test. It runs a test on the HDD and gives this error: "Error: Read failure".

So I did a test ONLY on the HDD and it said "No hardware installed" or something like that, so obviously it seems like its not picking up the HDD at all, I've opened the laptop up, the HDD is secure. Everything is secure in the laptop.

I guess pretty much the hard drive has crashed, which in the end, it will need a new HDD? OR is it possible to be repaired?

Desktop Problem

Alright, so this has been pissing me off for a while now. I installed Google Chrome, and I found it was using a shit load of resources (CPU Usage), so I asked a friend and he suggested Firefox. So I installed Firefox, it hardly uses ANY resources, unlike Google Chrome. But the only problem with Firefox, is that when I go and play Youtube videos, or in fact.. ANY video, it says I must install Adobe Flash player, so I clicked the install or whatever button, it downloaded it etc, then it said it failed, and I must install it manually. So I did that, and so then Flash Player was installed, but when I go to Firefox again and go to watch a video, it says I must install Flash Player. What the hell? I've installed flash player 'manually' about 7-8 times, and it gives the same result. I try install it the other way and it keeps failing (With ALL programs closed).

Could anyone help me with this? I am sick and tired of installing flash player so many times yet it still doesn't work.

Help?

Hey, thanks for the quick response.

I'll try that, and I'll post the feedback here.

For the laptop problem, its definitely the HDD. A while ago, same thing happened to me i just bought a new HDD and it worked fine, your problem seems to be the same as mine, just purchase a new HDD and it should work fine.

Hope it helps, Thanks!

About the HDD. If you have external box, try to place your HDD in that box and then connect to a working PC. If it fails, it's the HDD. If it works, it could be the cable or the port or anything...

You can avoid buying a new HDD by installing any operating system on a USB Stick. Can be 8gb minimum (for it to run fine obviously). Only drawback is that few laptops have slow transfer rate through USB and that means possible lag, but it's one way to get it back up running at minimum cost.

As for the Desktop, I'd suggest you Opera, or any portable browser installation, through I use an edited browser called Torch based on Chrome.

Laptop HDD has issues.

For browser, I recommend you use Maxthon, that browser is fuckin awesome and uses the least resources among ALL!

I know I'm a little late to this one, but yes, your hard drive in your laptop is gone. There are ways to repair it depending on what the cause is, but they would only be temporary so you could retrieve the data, and are only recommended for those with highly-technical electronics experience. If you don't need to save anything in there, you're better off just getting a new hard drive.

As for the desktop, it sounds like you may have Spyware. You may also have a lot of temporary files on your system. My recommendation is to run Anti-Virus AND Anti-Spyware scans, (full, not quick), and then use a program such as CCleaner to clean out the temporary files and old cookies on your system. Spyware can also corrupt your OS, leading to dummy issues like Firefox constantly requesting you install Flash Player.
