The Stefano Crime Family

The first official record of illegal activities connected to the man named Donald Stefano can be traced back to the 1990's and Sicily, Palermo. This was during an interview with a man named Santino Buscetta by the notorious prosecutor Peter Falcone, who during the time, was part of the "Anti Mafia Group" in Palermo. During the interview, Santino Buscetta gave witness testimonies on several hundred people around Sicily with connections to the Mafia, also referred to as "La Cosa Nostra," which in direct translation to English means "Our Thing."

One of the witness testimonies given by Santino sent a cold chill down Peter's spine. It was the murder of three teenagers, aged 14, 15 and 17. The three teenagers had stolen a purse from an old lady, who just as it happens, was the aunt of notorious crime boss Salvatore Inzerillo. Salvatore ordered the capture of the three teenagers and then met with his consigliere discussing what to do with them. Salvatore was enraged and wanted to set an example of the three teens. His consigliere however thought the boys should be set free, knowing "boys will be boys". In the end, the final decision was up to the Boss. Salvatore decided that he wanted the boys to suffer from what they had done, so he ordered two of his made men, Donald Stefano and Paolo Greco to drown the teens in a water well, outside of town.


Carabinieri were investigating the Inzerillo crime family's criminal enterprises and hierarchy, and Donald was indicted for extortion, murder and some minor crimes. One morning, while he was having his routine breakfast, Donald received an unknown call saying - not directly - that he would end up arrested in the early hours of the next day. Without thinking twice, he had some of his cash put apart with him to the airport and the first plane to the United States of America. Upon his arrival in Los Santos, he settled himself in an apartment downtown.


In the following days he made some contacts with a crime organization,The Pagnotto Crime Family, and began working with them, under Michael 'Rigg' Regan's crew. Donald was well experienced and he knew how to earn the cash for the week-thing, so Rigg acknowledged Donald's potential and admitted to him that he was disappointed with the top guys and the things should change within the organization. Michael thought Donald would be a good leader for the organization, but Frankie Pagnotto would never accept that offer. Because of this, Michael decided to induct Donald and afterwards get his help to take Frankie off from the top, declaring themselves the top guys. Everything went as planned: Michael set a meeting with Frankie, who spoke about general business and relationships with other crime syndicates.


When Donald entered the room, suddenly and unexpectedly, he shot Frankie in the head. In the following hours, all of Frankie's trusted people were whacked brutally. Michael felt relieved and offered Donald to be boss of the family: he accepted.
That was just the start of the Stefano's rise to the top.

Donald bought a bar in Ganton which became the base of meetings among the associates and other syndicate members. The spot became famous in short, not only attracting a lot of customers, but also, the bar became subject of investigation by the Los Santos Police Department. Luckily, while doing some redecorating a mole was discovered by one of the employees at the bar.
Donald's main concern appeared back from the past. The mole's finding had marked a different style conducting business: everybody had turned smarter - but together with that, they didn't lose the brutality, coldness and aggression that southern Italian mobsters are known to acquire from birth.


Things were starting to look well for Donald and his organization, Riggs was leading the biggest crew, having a quite good weekly income, but one day he had a dispute with a made-man in the family, Joseph Bonina. Michael's had more weight than Joseph's, but Riggs attacked Joseph, beating him down on the floor. The fight was stopped by people from Rigg’s crew, who did their best to to calm down the situation.
Afterwards, Freddy and Rigg had a sit-down with Donald, explaining the problem that had just arisen, but the boss had Rigg taxed, having to pay compensation to Joseph for the damage caused. Raising your hands against a made man is considered a major offence. Rigg was clearly disappointed, and the anger went above his conscience; he threatened Donald. This was the mark of Michael Rigg’s downfall.


Donald didn't do anything while Michael threatened him. Rigg later realized his offense. Michael, still incredulous on the sit-down's result, refused to apologize to him. Not far from the place they were meeting at, Joseph and the other boys were having a smoke, looking at Donald and Michael whilst checking the area out. Donald already figured Michael wasn't going to apologize to him so in actual fact, he was planning something against him. Just after Michael entered his car, he called Joseph, giving him a ring. Michael, started the engine and drove out from the Mulholland parking lot. That was the point of no return. Joseph hit the gas pedal, hitting Michael's vehicle, then everybody exited from the car and fired more than 300 rounds of Kalashikov into Michael Regan's vehicle.
