It's not the same sound, it used to make it on windows 7 when it loads something heavy, i wasnt loud. No, i do not own SDD, my Windows 8.1 is installed in Hard Disk C, just like Windows 7 was.

I have upgraded from windows 7 and didn't loose a byte of info.

Prehistoric? My PC has no problem running GTA IV, BF3, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 on ultra. Tell me about it.

Bullshit, after a full windows reinstall you have to install everything manually, as most of these drivers would be downloaded via updates, however, you have to install the network driver first.

Dude, Windows 8's internet explorer works better than chrome!

And these who are worried about Metro UI:

An excuse of a poor man. Forget XP, it's dead, it's old, it's no longer any good. It isnt supported by microsoft anymore, connect to internet - get two hundred viruses. Yes, it was good in GTA SA Era, but now, when all new games are released on newer Windows, XP is useless. Don't say that other versions are shit just because your wooden PC can't handle them.

lol, XP can handle almost all programs on this planet. 8 can't. Haven't you heard of a high-end PC running XP? In my opinion, this is the ideal computer.

For your information, many new applications and games have no support Windows XP and there is no guarantee, that it works with Windows XP at all.

If you have the money, I highly recommend getting your hands on a solid-state drive. I won't bother posting why you should. Look it up, and decide for yourself.

Anyone attempting to defend Windows XP are simply stuck in the past, when XP was the most reliable Microsoft OS - and when Microsoft let us down with the release of Vista. XP cannot (and will not, as we progress) utilize the most up-to-date hardware and software as the likes of Windows 7/8 can, and that is perhaps its most major downfall.

I'm shocked people are still running XP with a smile. The only people I know that still has it would be the computer we purchased for our grandparents to use email on years ago. Back to the subject, if you haven't given Windows 8(.1) a shot for a week or more, you didn't give it enough time. I was one of those who upgraded from 7 who hated 8 and reverted back as I had so many compatibility issues. When 8.1 was released, I gave it another go and fell in love with it. It's so much more responsive and snappy than Windows 7. Just try it, you might just like it.

Specs: 2.8GHz i5 Quad Core, 8GB RAM, NVidia GT640

Windows 7 knocks Windows XP dead in the water. XP was absolutely brilliant, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 do outperform it.

Windows 8.1 is one hell of an OS, and especially if you have a Windows Phone, works absolutely perfectly as a cloud based solution. If it wasn't so much of a hassle, I'd be swapping straight from 7 to 8.1 and use it all the time.

As it happens, before people claim I'm biased or anything here, my machine is set up for a quad-boot, meaning I can boot up to: XP, Ubuntu, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 is good, and when Windows 9 comes out I think it'll be the best OS ever made.

Windows XP is amazing for running older games/programs from the 90's.

My personal opinion - Windows 8 / 8.1 are suitable for tablet device interfaces, not desktop machines. Many of my friends share that opinion. I just don't like Windows 8 because all the icons and setup etc look like it was designed by a 5 - 6 year old child, and Microsoft call that trying to brand an identity in the OS market? I beg to differ.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

Windows XP is amazing for running older games/programs from the 90's.
Since my computer isn't very good (for benchmarking purposes: can run Oblivion and New Vegas on low-to-medium graphic settings at about 20-30FPS), I usually play older games, but typically have no issues with pre-2000 games. Any issues that I do come across are typically easily resolved with a little bit of googling and knowledge of troubleshooting.

I have an HP G62 of an unknown specific model. Whatever the model is, not recommended. Then again, doesn't that apply to a lot of HP products? Extreme heat issues - I'm lucky to EVER get it to run below 160 degrees Fahrenheit and it produces enough heat just doing simple tasks to cause heat-related injury if on the lap for long enough, yet it has somehow lasted since Christmas of 2010 without any signs of hardware issues. At least my Christmas gift was better than my old desktop computer... I still remember some of its specs.
Nvidia GeForce 5600 FX Ultra, 2GB Ram, some AMD single-core processor clocked at 2.2GHZ.

Detailed system specs:

Operating System : Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor : AMD Athlon(tm) II P340 Dual-Core Processor, ~2.2GHz
Memory : 3072MB RAM
Available OS Memory : 2810MB RAM
Video card : AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250, 1401 MB Display Memory and 256 Adapter RAM
Network adapter : Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Sound : Realtek High Definition Audio.
Hard disk : ST925041 0AS SATA Disk Device(Seagate, 250G)

On the current system I am running, I can't install windows 7/8. I can't deny that its good but XP has been pain in the butt since the release of Windows 7, too many viruses. XP can't handle all those new applications which are now more intense on the CPU and RAM, it's simply too old for it.
