Reasons to upgrade your windows to Windows 8.1

Windows 8 is being bashed on because it had balls to make a change. Seriously, weren't you tired of the same OS with different title each few years? Yes, they did indeed screw up with METRO UI, it really isn't suitable for a PC, though I really didnt find it that difficult ,everything new needs time to get used to. You can remove all the default stuff from the METRO UI and add all your shortcuts there and then group them to "GAMES", "PROGRAMS", "INTERNET", "IMPORTANT" and so on so you can access them even easier than via the regular start menu, and if you really hate metro so much, you can just right click on the taskbar, set "Boot straight to desktop" and install StartIsBack, which removes METRO UI and re-places it with a taskbar. Visually it might be a pain in the ass for SOME, but performance is much better. Certainly it wont run some programs that Windows 7 did, no further Windows ever will, because everything gets old. Games you could still play on Vista can no longer be played on Windows 7 so stop fooling yourself.

Oh and BTW, for these crying about Steam not working - STEAM works just as it did on win 7 for me on windows 8.

You're obviously doing something wrong, I have been using Windows 8 for so long and I have not had the problems you have said NOT EVEN ONCE, dont fail the OS because of your own incompetence. You probably didnt even partitioned your HDD...

No, i'm not being a fanboy or trolling, you're the one who doesn't know how to use his computer, seriously, if you haven't even partitioned your HARD DISK and then complain about it not detecting your D:\ drive, you really should get a MAC or something, I don't know. If you haven't partitioned your HDD the only disk that your Windows will detect is C:\, smartass..

In any case, stop overusing that fanboy word, it really doesn't fit to this situation, you can be a fanboy of a game, not an operating system. I was enjoying Windows 7 just as much when 8 wasnt out yet, but when I tried 8, unlike some of you driven by only your principles, I accepted that Windows 8 is simply faster and better than 7.

Dude, my PC is a high-end gaming PC, by HDD clicking sounds It wasnt what I meant, I meant the hard disk light usually flashing a lot when running a program (indicating it's working a lot and a lot of resources are being eaten up). Windows 8.1 is same as Windows 7, you can get rid of the ugly start menu, seriously, i have removed every single default app that came with the thing, installed a "Back to Start menu" few megabytes mod and now i can enjoy a way faster expierence than Windows 7 ever had. And you can bull... us all you want that Windows 7 is running the same or faster than Windows 8, Windows 8 being less resource eating and faster on running programs, shuting down and turning on is proven. No matter how fast your PC is, it will be even faster in Windows 8. Here, take a look



AS you see, I dont need to use the default start menu at all, I've set my windows to boot straight to desktop which is a default option, so I'm using it just like I would use windows 7, the only difference - Windows 8.1 is a lot faster.

The picture shows nothing to prove it works faster.

You forgot to mention 2015.
It's not even confirmed by Microsoft. The threshold (which was previously rumoured to be Windows 8.2 by the way, so you never which OS update it exactly is) could simply be a deeper integration of Microsoft operating systems (Windows, RT, Phone and Xbox).

Mine won't install the update, so I guess I'm stuck with 8.0. No clue why neither Windows update in desktop and Metro modes fail, and downloading the update from M$ website also fails.

Any ideas, let me know, but nothing on the M$ website about the same error has yet been able to solve it.

I have been a use of Window 8 since it came out and I loved it, great OS and works really well with multiple monitors (I use up to 4 at work and making them work nicely without blue screens took lots of effort on Windows 7, upgrading to 8.1 immediately fixed it).

Although recently I switched to Mac OS X Mavericks, probably the best tech decision I've made in my life Incomparable to Windows 8, simply a perfect OS and amazing user experience.
