If the UN summons the armies they will have no other choice then to respond. Eventhough the budget isn't as big as it used to, we'll have to respond. Speaking for my own country, it's going to be a problem, as we're currently on a mission in Mali, Afrika and he have quite a lot of units deployed there. They'll probably have to re-deploy if the UN summons.

Why would starting an all out war make them rich? The U.S practically went bankrupt (Taking out huge loans) just fighting the war on terror. Imagine how expensive it'd be to fight Russia. Same goes for Russia too. Similarly, wars have always been the element that broke economies, not made them.

The most logical method to fight would instead be the cheapest, where you don't need to send in your own troops or much resources. Attacking each other's friends. Disrupting each others supplies, economies e.t.c. Starting a coup in a country controlled by the other side. Or maybe invading the country and installing a 'Freedom fighter' militia, that then take over. The country is yours without a single one of your men dead.

The elections of Ukraine will be held may 22-ish(?). It will be interesting to see where it will go from there. I think the whole situation has been drawn out for too long now.

I don't think the situation would have been as bad if Russia would have allowed for international authorities to conduct and oversee the referendum for annexation of the Crimea.  I suspect that there may have be some threats involved from both sides of the disagreement but the decent into near civil war is worrying. I can understand Russia's motives in the protection of the Russia people from a government which were not directly elected but should have had some neutral authority involved from the beginning.
