Crusader Kings II is a grand strategy game set in the Middle Ages developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Paradox Interactive as a sequel to Crusader Kings. The game is a dynasty simulator where the player controls a Medieval dynasty from 1066 to 1453, though the DLC The Old Gods and Charlemagne allow for a start date of 867 and 769, respectively. Through the strategic use of war, marriages and assassinations among many other things, the player works to achieve success for his or her dynasty.

The Asens' Bulgaria
My Bulgarian campaign started in the early 13th Century playing with the Asen Dynasty. Over the years I slowly started expanding.

At this point I crossed the Dunabe and started going North against the pagan Cumans, using the neighboring christian countries as allies, to help my advance toward the Crimea Peninsula.

In the middle of the 13th Century the Golden Horde started advancing toward Europe, giving me very limited time to conquer what territories I could. I tried reaching Crimea before the Mongols but Civil War between the Queen and her Sister slowed me down.

The end of the 13th Century was the end of my campaign toward Crimea, on the bright side I avoided a war with the Byzantine Empire. My Goal had changed - Go North and reach the lands of Russia, unifying the different independent countries under the banner of Bulgaria.

Entering the 14th Century the quest to Moskva had gone well, only stopped by my incompetent Chancellor. But the new Tsar hopefully will manage to lay waste to the savage Ruskies.

So, anyone else playing CK2? Feel free to share your Kingdom's history!

My best run of CK2 was with the Tuscan duchy. My dynasty's peak was the kingdom of Italy including land in Sicily and Croatia. That's when the almighty king challenged the Pope and became excommunicated.
After his death a civil war raged and the kingdom was divided into 3 quarrelling sons. The Byzantine and Holy Roman Emperor pounced at the opportunity and my dynasty became a shadow.

The Bulgarian Saga continues

After tightening my grip around Kiev and Minsk, I decided it's time to wage a Crusade on the heathens of Rum, calling my allies in an attempt to establish a foothold on their lands.

Sadly, short after my Victory the King passed away and the new King of Bulgaria did not inherit the Kingdoms of Serbia and Wallachia, thus Bulgaria was split into two territories apart from one another.

The Rumites used the opportunity to wage a Jihad on the lands I recently took from them. Shortly before that I declared war on my brother, in an attempt to re-take Wallachia.

With help from my allies and carefully using my troops I managed to re-gain the territories I lost, except the Kingdom of Serbia...But they're next!

Well the differences are quite big. In Crusader Kings 2, it's all about your dynasty surviving. You can start as a duke of a small county in another kingdom, and slowly rebel against your King, making your own kingdom. You rule as a king, managing your vassals and insuring peace both in and out of your country.

While EU4 mostly has the whole country under your control. You don't have to maintain a good relation with your vassals, you don't need to have children and insure you have a heir.

This guy sums it up good.

If you ever hear people talking about plotting to kill their 13 year old imbecile chaste niece then expelling the jews after borrowing money from then in order to marry Queen of England, you probably have a Crusader Kings 2 player near you.

Merchant Republic of Estonia

And we do not try to be real life, as why would you ever play real life if you have one ? We play the GTA universe, and our players should try to live in the GTA world, not the real one.
