Let's talk micro-transactions

Hello,

A lot of servers (and games) are remaining competitive by the introduction of additional funding via micro-transactions. A lot of game servers, including SA:MP servers, Garry's Mod servers, Minecraft servers and alike use these to support themselves. Meanwhile we rely on donations and advertisements. Not many people donate these days because of no reward for donation, and most us.. let's be honest use an ad blocker so this isn't a great avenue stream. These allow you to use real money in order to get in-game benefits. Now before we even go any further we wouldn't introduce a pay2win system where you can get exclusive content; just shortcut to different things. For example, paid houses, vehicles, etc.

We want to know the communities input before looking into a platform to support such. The benefit of this to the community would allow us to keep expanding further and further, reach more players with marketing campaigns, and keep the server's running longer and possibly even better (upgrades).

How would it make trading real life money for in game items between players a rulebreak?

I'm not sure if I get the meaning of the topic correctly, but these are items I saw which are available for premium players on other servers I saw over time:

• Certain vehicles.
• Name changes (Which wouldn't be good for Argonath since it's light-RP).
• Customized phone number (Which you can currently get by paying in-game cash).
• Different animations (Which makes your character more exclusive than others).
• Certain furniture objects.
• Certain wearable objects (hats, glasses etc.).
• Forum ranks (When I was a newbie in online-gaming I loved to have a different rank than others which made me to donate).

Please note that I'm just brainstorming some things...

The list martijn posted, apart from the vehicles and houses are all fine for me, as they're cosmetic.
In minecraft I could possibly do the same with capes or other stuff.

But other than that, don't introduce them here if they break gameplay in any way. People should be playing the game rather than pay to skip the game mechanics.

There was one "rule" that Gandalf had that was righteous. And we want it changed... I get the whole, good meaning behind this. But I am damn sure this is going to go too far one day. I'm against this, sorry.

To be honest I would surely donate if I would get certain things in return. This was the first thing that bothered me when I came here, the fact of getting nothing when donating. It simply doesn't stimulate to donate. I've donated multiple hundreds of Euro's in games like SA:MP to support servers and just have those little extra's.

What about those who work hard to buy a property, a vehicle or an item , wouldn't they be disadvantaged? I'm against this, if you want to donate you shouldn't get any advantage on other players. Everyone is equal right?

Since you mentioned donations, donate 15euros for my internet bills, havn't been payed for 2months now.
