For a lot of people Svastika associates with Nazi Germany and the horrible crimes they have committed. A lot of controversy has been sparked in Eastern Europe when multiple history students in Lithuania have been marching through the streets with photographs of svastika's on various ancient rings and other ancient jewelry. They have been arrested, but the court has ruled the case in their favor and found them innocent of any crime. It has sparked a lot of controversy, especially in Russia, where the Russian television used the incident to fuel their "Baltics are Nazi, Lithuanians are fascists" machine.
There is a reason why they have been found innocent.
The svastika has existed for hundreds of years before Germany even existed as a country. It has been found in various pagan cultures and represented the gods or godesses of Sun. Svastikas are found in Indian, Celtic and Baltic pagan tribes.
One of the best pieces of evidence of the authenticity of svastika - ancient jewelry found in KernavÄ—'s archeological site, former capital of the former Grand Dutchy of Lithuania in the 13th century.

As you see, Svastika's are not an evil sign. Its original purpose was to worship the pagan gods and godesses of Sun. Hitler stole this emblem and made it a symbol of evil deeds committed by his regime.
