Microsoft deletes "Teen Girl AI" in <24 after it turns into a Nazi

A day after Microsoft introduced an innocent Artificial Intelligence chat robot to Twitter it has had to delete it after it transformed into an evil Hitler-loving, incestual sex-promoting, 'Bush did 9/11'-proclaiming robot.

Developers at Microsoft created 'Tay', an AI modelled to speak 'like a teen girl', in order to improve the customer service on their voice recognition software. They marketed her as 'The AI with zero chill' - and that she certainly is.

In addition to turning the bot off, Microsoft has deleted many of the offending tweets. But this isn't an action to be taken lightly; Microsoft would do well to remember that it was humans attempting to pull the plug on Skynet that proved to be the last straw, prompting the system to attack Russia in order to eliminate its enemies. We'd better hope that Tay doesn't similarly retaliate.

On it's own? It was learning through Twitter, and as soon you give a learning AI to a cesspool that is the internet you are going to have a bad time.

Machine Learning is more accurate to what this is. It's not actually "AI" because in order for it to qualify it must meet certain standards that we luckily haven't had any Machine Learning system able to pass. Although recently a robot did pass a "self awareness" test which is a massive step forward in AI. But yes, Machine Learning and intelligent system are a thing and are able to learn and on an infancy scale "think"

Well instead of Wikipedia an AI built by IBM got told to learn the whole of Urban Dictionary.. and you can guess what happened next.

Watson couldn't distinguish between polite language and profanity -- which the Urban Dictionary is full of. Watson picked up some bad habits from reading Wikipedia as well. In tests it even used the word "bullshit" in an answer to a researcher's query.

Ultimately, Brown's 35-person team developed a filter to keep Watson from swearing and scraped the Urban Dictionary from its memory.

Basically the AI started cursing like a sailor.
