Note's for future purchases: don't be a broke bitch and just be smart and buy it new with a warranty.

Wow we're talking about a GTS 450? I bought that in 2011 second hand for 50 bucks...

Ergo just buy another one that's cheaper than some of the fans out there and the risk of you fucking up is decreased significantly.

That card is so outdated, it's hardly worth even buying something that old. At least get something in the GTX series.

Money isn't an issue, it's just principle I don't want to get robbed by paying a fortune for a damn card but whatever.

If your GPU was really a GTS 450 then I'm betting your CPU is also some old crappy thing, you should just build new from scratch if money isn't an issue.

CPU is intel i5 2500 3.3ghz

i'm not a hardcore pc gamer by all means.. i have my ps4 for fifa and gta 5 I use my pc for CSGO and occasional SAMP.

Max I'll spend on this shit is £150 and GTX 960 4GB falls at that price.

ZOTAC ZT-90308-10M NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 960, 4GB

Just buy a proper card like that GTX960, it's a one time investment for like 2-3 years, that GT740 would fucking struggle 24/7

This topic just triggers me.

Please if you ever buy a PC in life guys make sure you have a budget and a work with one,  if you want a PC that plays games at 60fps etc. Prepare to put your hand in the pocket, don't cut corners, all my components brought brand new for the fact of warranty, and Kaze you are always telling me how much money you pull from your job so don't be a melon and actually put some money into a buy a proper gpu and not a toaster because by the sounds of it and reading through 5 pages of this topic I'd say you should stick with your PS.

Plus you have a computer and access to working net I guess use it to Google stuff and YouTube bits that's what I did YouTube taught me most of the stuff I know about my computer, likes of Jay's two cents, Linus, that guy with the big ass neck beard, just you tubing things with pcs helps out alot, that's how you make judgments, check prices per fps and things if you want to save money, but with pcs you cannot cut corners and buy dodgy stuff.

Bought a shitty unnamed psu parneterd it up with R9 and it broke it basically so a £20 psu in reality cost £150-70 worth of damages pay for full price and be smart.

Exactly why I would never buy second hand components even if they looked in working order.  Just get the GTX 960 and your sorted, not like you need anything more going by that you only really play CS:GO and SA:MP.  Do your homework when buying components something which people still fail to do.

REPLICA.

Holy shit this thread is a roller coaster.

There's nothing wrong in buying second hand components (in 2011 I bought a complete tower for 350€, which was less than half the price of the components if they were new. Sold it in 2015 for 320 or 360€, can't remember), but YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL and KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

For starters, don't buy a used GPU with broken fan blades. What were you thinking?
Don't buy a motherboard where one of the features don't work (for example, one USB, hdmi, vga, sata connection, ram slot, pci-e slot, etc).

This applies to every component.
You know why? Because it means that sooner or later the whole thing is going to the shitter. If you're going second hand, be extra careful and check if EVERYTHING is working properly. This should be common sense. Also check if they still have warranty, and if they do, ask for receipts so that you can make use of it.

Now, if you're going brand new desktop, now's not a good time to buy a new GPU, as AMD should be releasing their new cards soon. But you can start planning your build already. If you have a strict budget don't waste the money on expensive CPU coolers, expensive cases (but you should still get something somewhat decent. Super cheap cases make a lot of noise due to their use of thin metal), extra case fans, etc. Also, forget about matching colors on components or anything like that (I've seen some users here do that)

Why buy a crappy Fiat with a crappy engine and then spend a lot of money adding custom bodykits, spoilers, wheels, etc, instead of buying a decent stock Mercedes with a decent engine? Deep inside it's still a crappy Fiat.

It's a retarded decision if you are in a budget. Just worry in getting the best performance possible, without sacrificing too much on security. NEVER cheap out on a PSU.

If you're going for second hand GPUs, take a look at the AMD R9 3xx series (and possibly some higher-end R9 2xx models), or NVIDIA 900 series. Going older than that is generally a bad idea (with the exception of maybe 770, 780 and 780Ti if they're at a really good price) as it's just not worth your money nowadays.

It's a good idea to ask sellers to provide videos of the GPU being stress tested before going ahead with the purchase. Don't get scammed, and don't buy used stuff at ridiculous prices.

And don't make the same mistake of buying a GPU with broken fans, lol.
