Well for mafia you will use AK's, SMG and so on
For Gangs, Deagles, pistols, Tec9.
For Armies, M4
For DMers, Sawnoff

Sawn-offs are the lamest. A sawn-off shotgun is a 12 gauge shotgun, for those who haven't noticed. I mean, unless you're super-strong, it's impossible to use a god damn 12 gauge with ONE arm without breaking it off your body! Combats all the way.

Combat Shotgun - Good but looks like an army weapon
Sawnoff - Simply for those quick, non roleplay fights/killing, most common - deathmatch.
Shotgun - Perfect weapon, good roleplay.

both weapons for non-skillers,
u shoot 10 miles next to the other and still some bullets hit the other,
no skills needed at all,
bad range, good power at close combat:

-good power
-bad range
-average shooting speed

i dont like and dont use any of those 2 weapons, i prefer deagle above all!!!!!!!
why?
well good power, just 3 shots and dead, good range, good shooting speed

the only thing on deagle is that you need skills, if you got skills you use deagle, if you are a no-skiller you use shotguns
so personally i only use deagle, it pwns, im a good shooter with deagle
