Screw an expensive CPU..

Get a cheaper Quad Core CPU. They're only.. like £150. The CPU doesn't make a large difference to the gaming experiance. It's mostly to do with the graphics card.

What's your budget by the way?

I think my budget's £900 - £1000. I really do not want to spend much more on it. Also, my brother is going to give me his monitor, which is fairly new and apparently very nice, so that should cut the price a lot : ).

I was thinking of geting a quad core because they are supposed to be awesome too but someone posted a comment on a site which is the way i feel about it. They said ' If i'm going to upgrade/build my PC and spending a lot of money, i would rather not be a generation behind in processor when the build is done'.

Yea i would like to know also :P. Three of my parts cost £620, that's without fan, monitor, case, keyboard, mouse, powersupply, ram, hardrive...

I can get a decent PC for 600-800

So could I :P. But then i would have to change the subject title from Ultimate to decent :). Anyways i'm halting development on this until my brother brings me his pc up from the army camp, appartently it's brand new as his girlfriend gave him it and they broke up and she said he could keep it, so he's giving it to me. There's no point buying more untill i find out what i can scavange from it.

Via VGA - yes, everything is low. Via HDMI - no way, Samsung are one of few very advanced companies that support HDMI AND VGA. I have a 32" HD TV/ monitor and it's perfect.

If you are a Computer Technician who has ever taken apart one of ASUS' or LENOVO's Top of the Range Laptops, you will find that the LCD is a High Definition Samsung Panel.

LoL, if this is still on, I suggest here:
Intel C2D E8500 @ 3,16 GHz (Can be overclocked to ~3,5-4 GHz with stock cooler) [Can be overclocked to 4+ GHz with NH-U12P]
2x HD 4770
Corsair XMS2 TwinX 4GB (2x2048MB) 800 MHz
ASUS P5Q PRO
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LG GGC-H20LRB Super Multi Combo Blu-ray/HD DVD
Antec Three Hundred
Corsair HX520W
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-version [Beta] ( Really, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE STABLE )

I'll say this on euros lol but no matha
It's ~ 900€ + OS is free. (Beta)

That should run everysingle game at Very high (Yes, even Crysis)

Few comments:
The processor is a good one, runs stable, nice temperatures with the stock cooler.
Motherboard is also top of the line if you don't want to spend ALOT of money on it.

The rest is also pretty good, but what concerns me is the OS. It may be stable, good. But it's a beta.. it will expire at the 1st of August, yes this year. The retail version is planned for somewhere in 2010.
So you might get Vista (download it) not worth to buy while waiting for Windows 7.

Well i suggest that you get at least 4 gb of ram DDR2 at least, Processor...hmm...I would prepare for the future and buy Quad core, you would have to use vista or 7 to run all 4 cores...thats what i heard and i heard also that xp doesnt support quads so vista or 7...Dual core would be XP...anyway if youre choosing between Vista and 7, go for seven, there is a way to get it genuine now...discussing this further would be breaking the rules because ....ermmm...its sort of not legal maybe...graphic card...i recommend nvidia GTS 250 its good price and good performance, people run GTA IV on full details and everything maxed out...and oh the processor get Intel...amd just sucks dick hard. SLi...well i would do that in maybe a year or 2 cuz there arent really much games that support SLi...Cod 4 supports SLi though. I hope i helped you, erm for the case...Im getting new pc also and im going to get something like this what i wrote...so the case...im doing Thermaltake ARMOR+ MX Black + window VH8000BWS :D it looks solid, its Middle tower case...good cooling...or at least looks like it 2 120 mm fans 1 intake and 1 outtake and a 230 mm monster fan on the side. its looks kinda like a good case for modding it ...you can add about 4 more 120 mm fans if you remove optical drive slots...case supports water cooling also...for display...hmm im going with 24 inch...if you want you can go bigger but im fine with 24. keyboard...im getting reclusa (i think i spelled it good) gaming keyboard from microsoft and Microsoft habu mouse...they are both with blue leds and the case has a led fan (230 mm) glowing on blue...:D i hope i helped

Hi,

People telling you to get a dual core processor are wrong for a start, it will have to be quad-core at least.
I would recommend;

Motherboard: ASUS Striker II NSE LGA775 Nvidia 790i DDR3-1600 ATX Motherboard
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 940 3.0GHz
RAM: 2x OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 4GB 2x 2GB ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Dual Channel Kit
Graphics: 2x SLI BFG Nvidia Geforce rgtx2801024ocxe Gtx 280 Ocx 1GB Graphics Card
PSU: Enermax Galaxy 1000W EGA1000EWL Power supply - 1 kW
HDD: 2x Samsung Spinpoint F1 SATAII 32MB Cache
Case: Antec 900 Tower, Alienware, Lian-li.
OS: Windows XP Pro 64 Bit.

This is a pretty hardcore spec that will run 99% of current games at full capabilities.
GTA IV is a processor heavy game, i use about 20% of my graphics power and 100% of my CPU power to run it at medium/high settings.
Ram, and Graphics wont make too much difference for GTAIV its all about the processor and only a quad core will give you the results you want.

I estimate this spec at about £2000 with a bit of shopping around.

Hope this helps.
