In San Andreas speed limits do apply, the limits are:

Unlimited on Highways
80 Km/h in city and town limits (ie Las Venturas, Angel Pine etc)
120 Km/h on all other roads

Although there is a clear specification of what the speed limit is for a particular type of road, there isn't clear understanding on how to classify each road, but I am reffering mainly to highways. I have often asked people their opinions on what they consider a specific road to be and I always get conflicting answers from different people. Some of the roads in question are The Strip, the road between Mullholand and Market running East and West along Los Santos, the road passing the Ammunation through Market and some of the roads through Bone/Flint/Red County. I use Australian roads as my guide, but roads can differ from country to country, so is there a definite way to determine whether a road is a highway or not?

For the sake of clarity, I'll group highways and freeways together as they both have the same speed limits.

The point of this topic is "what is a highway", not "what is the speed on this road", unless you are prepared to highlight on a map, every highway.

The highways and freeways must be 4 line roads, and if there is no sidewalk next to it.... you can be sure theres no speed limit. At strip there is sidewalk, at Santa Marina Beach - Verona Beach 4 line road... there is sidewalk, and that counts as city road. All other roads outside the cities.. villages, if they are two line roads only, there the speed limit is 120kmh.

That's a sidewalk, but I'm certain that it's a highway/freeway.

at Santa Marina Beach - Verona Beach 4 line road... there is sidewalk, and that counts as city road.

You're the first person to ever tell me that that is not a highway/freeway.

I doubt if anyobody using that as sidewalk, but if theres no other exceptions... we can just say, that is the parking/repairing line.. if your car would break down.

IMO a highway is a road:

- with four lanes
- there are no entrances to buildings from the road (you don't drive into a garage/parking/alley from a highway)

Also they should require:
- clear separation from other streets
- on-ramps rather than junctions to get on and off

The LS Verona/Santa Marina Beach area actually is out of my definition, but I've always thought about that road as a highway since it's hard to get on or off it (no breaks in the road divider on a very long distance).

This is something that my handbook will contain, colored roads (on/off) that will show what speeds are allowed on certain roads.

When I come to this part tough, I will need some admins and such to point out what road is a highway etc.

highways are really unknown yes

from AVDS teacher i heard ALL 4 lane roads are highway,
but later i heard that that isnt true,
and personally i have no idea whats a highway or whats not(except for the very clear highways)

simpel evreything in the city is just 80 also the strip unless its lower or higer from the ground in LS

so roads as market, verona beach, strip are city roads,
good to know,

but if there is no way to a parking place,
then why is the road at LSAP a highway?
you can get on the big parking space there from the highway

same for east Beach highway,
you can get on parking places and there is a sidewalk
but it definatly looks like a highway

Aswell as the roads mentioned by Biaconeri, there are other roads that exist which conflict with this such as in Tierra Robada, so that attribute wouldn't be very appropriate, unless you made some adjustments.

Many highways have on/off-ramps on some sections and junctions on others. One example being Verona Beach because coming from LSAP, there are ramps and this is also the case at Flint intersection, but at what point do you determine whether a highway starts and stops if it has conflicting attributes? One option is to make the road with the conflicting attribute also a highway. This would solve the problem with Verona/Santa Marina/East Beach, from Mullholand intersection to Flint Intersection on the North West side of Lost Santos and other such roads, they would all be counted as highways.

This is quite a vague observation and can be interpreted with significant variation.
