Area 51 is not associated with the space race or anything. They are responsible for super-secret military operations, building super-secret weapons, and discovering super-secret "aliens."
Note that on Earth, that tiny thing would weigh probably about no more than a car (note that it is hollow inside for the men). The moon has 5/6 less gravity than Earth, so that tiny thing would be no more than 500 pounds (even that's a bit too much), which an extremely fat guy can top. Also, refer to
soft landing.
When they take off, it doesn't take much of a push to get them up and going, so not much dust and shit will be blown out making the quarry you were mentioning. Even if dust did get blown up, it'll go
