I think it's hard to say, because you fall into a level of almost bisexuality but not quite haha. Almost '2' on the 'Kinsey Scale'.

I have yet to run across anyone like that either, so it's probably one of the much smaller groups in the world's various sexual preferences being that it's so uncommon among people.

Although he calls himself Asexual.. I personally think he goes under the title of Demisexuality. But I don't know. There are so many different sexual preferences.. it's hard to get your head around them all.

I honestly don't understand how the hell a human being can be asexual without being mentally damaged or something similar, especially if that person's a guy, given that we're all sexual beings. You're a sexual being, I'm a sexual being, we all are... unless you were born by dividing from another human the same way bacteria do; I'd love to hear one of those.
 
I'm a straight guy. I see a girl with nice features, and I can't help but react, even if just to think "wow, that's nice". GOD DAMN IT, I AM A MAN!!!!

Humans though are programmed as sexual creatures. We see heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, trannies, pansexuals, and even those weird fellows with goat fetishes. However, they still all have in common, the fact that they have a sexual preference.
 
I've met a lot of people with different preferences in almost two decades, but I have yet to see someone who is to sex what an atheist is to religion.

They are born that way, same way people are born with any kind of mental issue or significant biological difference from the norm.
Same as homosexualty, bisexuality or whatever else.

Touching on what Pandalink said, yes, you can have something happen in your life, whether you are born with it or it's a traumatic incident, which can reprogram the way your mind works and can cause this. There is also a disorder out there that exists, although I don't remember the name off-hand, where you are born without emotions, whether it be some or all. If I remember correctly, it's due to a developmental issue with the brain during pregnancy, and upon birth, the lack of the part of the brain being developed or correctly functioning that controls this causes the person to feel nothing, or to lack certain emotions. This can also lead to a person being a-sexual because of the lack of emotion involved in it.
