Alright, so in America, we have an upcoming possible healthcare reform if it isn't shot down. I am at this point against the Universal Healthcare idea because it would mean the government deciding what I should do and who I should see blah blah blah. However, I know most of Europe has this sort of system. Do you guys like it or have you just never known what any other system is like?

uhhhh not really...it would make 39 states income tax be over 50%...which means...half your money gone to the government.

Whatever medical care should be paid for by the government.

Well, I'm from europe. The medical care isn't totally free. For some thing you still have to pay. But off-course you don't pay 10 gazillion dollars for a CAT scan, or 100000000 for the ambulance.
You dont pay for vital stuff but you still pay for check-up or complicated surgery.

About the taxes. Well, stop spending half you gdp on military. USA was more then enough military to defend American land. Obama is already making some good decisions on it. Americans worry more about terrorism and chinese or russian invasions then with their own health.
Europeans don't.

If you would not have money for an operation that would save your life, what would you rather have.
A free health care system or to pay less taxes ?

Now I know that many people in America believe in freedom of where to spend their money, and feel that they would pay more than if they will just save for some medical bills (or take credit if needed).
But by everyone paying a little bit it will be possible to provide medical care for all people. Some will pay more than they use, others will use more than they paid or couldever afford to pay.

In the Dutch system actually people are free to go wherever they want and take any treatment or doctor. There is a base insurance that will cover all expensive treatments, and if you want something extra like a private clinic or special room you can pay the exta cost. Its a mix of freedom and being covered for the expensive  operations.

In Russia there is a free healthcare system available for all. However people with money will not use it a lot and pay private clinics their full price instead.

But you also have to understand, with the money we use to pay that extra bit of taxes, we can USE to buy our own healthcare insurance. This would give us the freedom to go where we want to go to do what we want to do. Also, my family is insured because of my father's job's benefits. All of that would be thrown out of the window with universal healthcare.

Think of the people who don't have jobs with healthcare benefits. Think of those that are on minimum wage and can barely afford to stay alive. With those extra bit of taxes, you'd be helping the single mother struggling to take care of her child on minimum wage.

All are valid points I think. I definitely think the system needs to be reformed...but I don't think the government should be running it totally you know?

I may be incorrect but in the new system, I think some patients in some cases would have to go to doctors specified by the government...in other words, you couldn't visit your own physician.

In American, that sounds like communism. And you know that Americans are very affraid of the comunist boogieman.

Well, in Portugal, if you want a surgery for free you have to get in line and wait years, unless it is urgent, than you wait weeks. If you want to get surgery without waiting you must go to a private clinic.

What the hell are you talking about schfity.

50% income tax?? that would NEVER happen.

where are you getting this from.

this topic is extremely uneducated.

Communism? what.. the..

Ok.

Im not going to participate in this topic any further
I know the details of the Healthcare reform (thats one word by the way) because Healthcare is a HUGE part of my life, and my families.
Socialized Medicine is not coming to America.
Barack Obama made it clear in a speech that he would NOT pass a bill that reformed Healthcare into the way Canada has its healthcare system (Similar to other countries as well)

Get educated before you start to speak about something, and act like a know-it-all. you are a child yourself, and because you watched 10 minutes of news, dosent mean your "educated"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No it dosent..

Schfifty.

This healthcare plan has been in development for what.. a few months?

You don't have a life-carrier job. Nor do you pay tax more that 6.0, 6.5% sales tax when buying soda, or whatever.

Kids shouldnt be getting into politics. Its beyond stupid.
yeah, im a "kid" myself, but im educated, i take an active part in way of studying this in school, and actually paying attention to the news on a regular basis.

as i said before, Healthcare is a big part of my life, and my families.
