Story behind:
According to a state press by the Public Security Police (PSP), the alert was given at 15:04. An assault was occurring to Espirito Santo Bank (BES) of Campolide in Lisbon. At location, police saw it was 2 brasilian men that took 6 people hostage. Later only 2 remaining in this condition, a man and a woman, worker and manager respectively.
Immediately police created a security perimeter area, that was enlarge later with the Special Operations Group (GOE), with the Intervention Corp of the
Special Unit Police with a negotiators team and the Judiciary Police.
Through the afternoon was established diverse contacts with the suspects.
At 23:00 the 2 man got close of the BES bank doors "threatening the hostages with guns". One of them came by, holding the hostage (the bank manager) staying
there for around 20 minutes pointing the gun to her. The other hostage was also in this situation with the other suspect.
After a new attempt of negotiating the Tactic Unit of the Special Operations Group neutralized the suspects" the state press said.
At 23:23 there were 3 shots. Two shots fired from snipers and one from a suspect. Seconds after, the 2 hostages escape and police forces entered the bank, putting an end to more than 8 hours of intervention. Police said both hostages are fine.
One of the suspects died immediately and the other is in a critical state.
According to the portuguese news agency Lusa one of the suspects was 25 years old and the other 35.
