The PDF bug that comex exploited was patched in firmware 4.0.2, thus jailbreakme does not work for 4.0.2+.

Jailbreaking allows for the hold that Apple have on applications to be broken. It allows for more possibilities, really. You can download a vast amount of apps from the Cydia store that you cannot get anywhere else (such as Apple's App Store).
Knowledge is free but you can use your knowledge to make money upon those who cannot jailbreak...

The people who make money from these free jailbreaks are hated by the creators of jailbreaks. The hackers who create the jailbreaks spend a lot of time finding the exploits and then developing the jailbreaks, however they are always released free. So, all in all, those people who make money from selling free jailbreaks are considered to be motherfuckers!
