The teamspeak dilemma: language , taal , language , sprache ,lengua

The situation is the following : a lot of dutch players use teamspeak and it MORE than often happens we are in a channel with 4 or 5 dutch people

after talking english to eachother with our dutch accents it very often happens that we notice only dutch people in the channel and start talking dutch AYTOMATICLY , not in anyway to insult other people its just more natural.

NOW I know the rule is DONT speak any foreighn language but WHY if we are alone in a channel DOES IT MATTER TO ANYONE ???

anyway i have TS overlay and can see who enters the channel in game , if someone joins i ask in english who is there , and we START TALKING ENGLISH

it just feels so STUPID to talk english to other dutch people ..........

So I in my opinion the rule should be English is the main language unless you are with all the same nationals in a channel , if somone enters revert to English

Im putting this up here to start a Debate this is not killzone so please KEEP IT A CLEAN ARGUMENTED DISCUSION

and respect other people / nationalities things like foreighn languages suck ETC are no arguments , once I myself entered a channel with two finnish guys, I politely asked if they could talk english and they just did so i didnt take offence to it at all , but maybe its because in holland most people speak 2 or 3 languages that we can take it better anyway WO STARTS THE DISCUSSION????????????

Think of this.

Player comes on, hes dutch, hell, we can call him..... Mr man, (XD) now, hes on TS, spoeaking english, but hes a better liguist if hes speaking dutch, and im sure if he lives in Holland, and speaks dutch all the time, hed feel a lot more comfortable speaking dutch, now, say there were three members from Holland, who all felt more confortable speaking dutch, now, TS does not have voice pms, so in my eyes, the only resolve would be to have a channel for foreign languages, with sub channels for francais, espagnol, dutch and so on, but have in the topic in that language.

"Please only use this language in this room, and if any head admins ask a question in English, please respond in english, also remember to only speak english in main chat in game."


If this were right, players would feel more confortable in the server, and the english speakers wouldnt come in and cry about a language, the only times Iv used ts put me off, becuase once, someone was getting an odd noice due to speaker sounds, the other time I had someone constantly whining at me to "speak english" when my mic was muted and iv seen people getting told to speak english when there was only one english speaker in the channel, amongst around four dutch players.

Suppose that you come on TeamSpeak and here are 3 or 4 guys speaking to each other in Chinese.
Would you like them to continue the Chinese or would you like them to start speaking English ?

The idea for some language subchannels is not bad, but it leaves 2 different choices.

1. Possibility to speak different language in all channels, if all players present can speak and understand it.
2. Language subchannels, where the subchannels are the ONLY place allowedto speak this language.

Im for the first choice , english is the main language but if all people are from the same country they can speak their own language .

the problem with separate channels is  -like the word says- separation , for me it was NEVVER about that , it was just if you are in a channel with people from your own country you arent forced to NOT speak your own language . if someone joins the channel ofcourse be polite and talk english .

No no i think he means if people want to speak a different language than English its OK AS LONG AS THEY ALL AGREE

This would in practice lead to people speaking English BUT if all are from the same country can speak their own language that's all

I really don't like to see 19 different channels with all two people in em speaking different languages that's just separation and not necessary

Lol, just speak English people (Especially if channel full of ALS)... try speaking in another language infront of ALS, mostly British and we will share a lot of our local termanology!!

Seems like you don't understand the meaning of the channels correctly. The channels are supposed to match your current status and skin ingame. If you are in-game, you should be on one of the "Citizens" sub-channels or in police radio, depending on what your skin is.

I am not very happy to find 5 guys speaking Dutch on "Support channel", though they are all in game, playing, and the conversation nohow follows the channel rule "for support purposes only"...

Anyway, about the foreign languages. I think we could make a change in the rule, but then we would take a look on how people will respect it. Foreign language could be spoken, if everybody on the channel understood it. But right after a new guy joins the channel, the conversation should turn to English automatically. So, that guy shouldn't even have to ask "could you speak English, please".

But I have a bad feeling where this kind of rulechange would lead to...
Let's say, there are 4 Dutch guys on the "Business" sub-channel. Then a British guy joins the server. After that, all the Dutch guys switch to some other empty channel, only so they can continue speaking Dutch...

I can understand that , Kaltsu and it already happens sometimes too . So I think if the rule changes then it has to be clear to all that they /we (i was one of the five in support channel)Have to use the proper channel for their/our skin and this rule will then have to be enforced STRICTLY

I will admit I have made mestakes in this myself ..but like i said for me it was only that people that have a reason to be in a channel AND happen to be of the same Nationality are not forced to speak English AMONGST THEMSELVES

so as of now i will always be in the right channel myself and i will instruct others to do so also.

Oh about when someone enters , I always ask 'hello who's that?' and start English immediately , I however I can not speak for all others in this ..

To conclude I want to say  : We all come together here and we all think its interesting to ''meet' different people from different nations and to play with them , but this also means to comunicate we have to make some sacrifices and where freedom is given also more personal responsability from players is asked .(like if the new rule is passed .)

Ok, the rule has been changed to "English is the main language to be used, but any language is allowed as long as everybody on the channel can understand it".

To describe this rule better, you are allowed to speak other languages ONLY, if everybody on your channel understands it. As soon as someone, who does not understand it, joins the channel, the conversation must return to English.

:ps: Today I already faced a problem, immediately after taking the new rule in use. Two Dutch guys went to VC channels, to speak Dutch, though they were playing SA... :flame:

If there will be major problems along this new rule, the rule will be changed back to "English is the only language allowed". So you guys, who want to speak your own language in TS, the future is up to you...

exactly what i was going to tell them myself some guys need to understand this freedom comes with an cost if you tell me their names (but i think i know who) ill talk to them about it !!.I see the new rule as a good compromize and if people dont want to listen : kick or Ban from TS   :out:  :ban:

The problem with this is the following , he (rob i believe ONLY entered the CHANNEL to tell us :ENGLISH ONLY )BUT we were ALL DUTCH

HE didnt enter to play but to point out the OLD rule THEN HE LEFT ??????wasnt the rule we could talk dutch AMONGST ourselves ??

if someone is playing and is in the RIGHT channel we ofcourse would have spoken english .. I have one of two feelings OR people that dont like the rule are trying to discredit us or just DONOT KNOW we can speak our own languagfe amongst ourselves

Please put this in the right perspective Kaltsu NOBODY broke the new rule ......
