It's not better than the 460. And Nvidia's best IS the 460 for being the most bang for buck card out there right now. Get another one for SLI and you've got a 480, 580, 5970 and the future 69xx GPU killer.

The GTX295 is for a fact older, hotter, noisier and the same price. It doesn't have DX11 support and eats up more power. Two 460s would  be quieter and would kick the living shit out of any single card on the market right now. When you can have one for 100GBP delivered I think that's a rather good deal.

You need to deep fry the graphics card and put some ketchup on it instead of baking it... :poke:

Well, about how i got it.

A friend of mine bought it from dutch auction site, he used it for 3 months, then it stopped working, then i bought it for 5 bucks, and am now trying to repair it.

This card was sold in 2007, do you think after being the 4th owner, and 3 years, i still have waranty?

You can also check out the new Sandy Bridge or just wait a little longer for the 1156 socket prices to drop and get an i5 for a lower amount of cash and have more features.

waaaay too expensive for me. I might start a new project with all that 1156 stuff in 2013, when it's at the same price as quad cores are now.

Btw, it's most likely going to be a Q9400 instead of a Q9450 . Better ''stepping'' and closer to my budget

Just wait a month and see. The Sandy Bridge 1155 socket is coming out which will make 1156 socket IE the current i3 and i5 prices drop to LGA 775 level.

Hi Salmonella, How did you manage to fix a cooked card?

For Your Information Todor,

The Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 are Intel's latest line up of CPUs.

The simple version is, Core i3 is dual core, Core i5 is quad-core, Core i7 is up to 6 cores.

The Core i7 also has Hyper threading, which means 6 cores can do 2 threads at the same time, resulting in a great performance boost.

Hope This Helps!

Happy Gaming!
Regards

These i cores have FINALLY caught up with AMD

Lets take for example the AMD Turion, and the 2 core Duo

Intel Core 2 Duo

Core 1--------------------------Core 2
                            |
                            |
                            |
            Rest of Computer (RAM etc)
Data only travels along one way, so if you are gaming, both cores can be used, but if the RAM etc has to send data back, the Cores Slow Down because Data is coming both ways

AMD Turion

Core 1===================Core 2
                          ||
                          ||
                          ||
          Rest of Computer (RAM etc)
On the AMD, there are two streams, so data can be received and sent at the same time.

So effectively this made the Turion faster than its competitor, however I believe the 'i cores' now use this technology which is why they are seen as 'Smart'

I hope you realise what I mean.

May I also add the Core 2 Duo works sort of like the Core 2 Quad. The later core, ie, the i5, would be a fair bit faster.

Also worth a look at is some of the AMD Phenom x4 or x6 cores. These can be expensive though, especially the x6

Hope this helps you understand :D

Joe/Julio

Joe, I totally disagree with your thingy about AMD. Intel has been leading almost twice as much since the new millenium.. Anyways, you should make a topic about it, not discuss it here.

Hi Salmonella, How did you manage to fix a cooked card?
First i took off the plastic cover, after that i loosened the screws, located at the bottom of the card. These screws were there to keep the thermal heat sink attached to the card. I took out the heat sink and cleaned all the proccesors on the video card itself from thermal paste. I did that with benzene ( took me almost 2 hours to do that stuff ). When i took off the other removable parts ( IO should etc. ) , I took the card and I cooked it at 200 degrees / 220 degrees celcius for 10 minutes. After that i let it cool down for 1 hour, reattached everything, new thermal paste and tested  it. When i tested it, it did not work, so i did all this over again. Didn't work neither.. After that i realized it wasn't the video card not repaired... It was the motherboard, which didn't support the card for some reason :redface:

I decided to ''finnish'' my new computer project, in order to test the card. It was easy, because i only needed RAM. So i bought a 4 x 1 GB DDR3 1000MHZ kit for 25 euros ( pretty cheap huh? ). When i first booted the computer the computer, the CPU cooler started blasting at 4500RPM, I didn't know why at first, but it turned out that motherboard didn't support an Intel Celeron D. So i took out a Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 out of my other PC ( i really have a lot hehehe ). When i inserted it, the computer immideatly worked. From that moment, the computer lives on with the 8800 ultra :P.

Just a personal summary of the stuff i collected and have to collect :

-Motherboard - ASUS P5P43TD PRO - Costed me 40 bucks, this summer
-Video Card - ASUS EN8800 Ultra ( nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra ) - Costed me 5 euros - repaired it
-Processor - Most likely gonna be an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 - Going to cost 110 euros
-RAM - 4GB DDR3 - costed 25 euros
-Power Supply - ocZ Technology Stealth X-Steam 2 at 600 watt - bought it off a friend of mine today, for 10 euros.
-Case - Coolermaster Centurion 534 Plus - Costed me 30 euros, this summer -

Picture :

Harddisks and stuff taken from another PC, which i own, so it didn't cost anything.

Total spent - 110 euros
Planning to spend on quad core - 110 euros

These prices don't make any sence huh? :P

Also to get back on that i3 and i5 idea of yours, Todor ; I really dislike these CPU's.. If i'd buy something else than a quad core, it's going to be an i7. Probably around 2013
