Hi [NP]Monte Montague

Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 3.06GHz Socket 775 1066Mhz 3MB Cache Processor

It is better than the rest you have mentioned. You are looking to upgrade from an old motherboard. Be sure to look at what Memory options are available. You should find that DDR2 Ram is considerably cheaper when it was when you first purchased your system.

Might I recommend also, for a better improvement, spending the time to look at Solid State Drives This might be the better option for you rather than spending money on a processor that is not on par with the newer varieties.

When adding value gets you worse off than you were before, due to a hidden agenda against you, its time to quit. Then remember why you quit in the first place.

I just had a quick look around for you... If you're on a budget but want to upgrade your computer and make it a little more futureproof at the same time then do what I'd do buy the following items...

Sub total = 140.96
+ 27.38 Vat
+ 5.95 Delivery
= 164.29

I dunno what GPU you have but this is what you can achieve with this setup depending on your GPU ofc.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops KFA2 GTS450

But if you're just after a CPU then the CPU DellStorm mentioned is great.

Pointless to upgrade the CPU with your motherboard. Get either an I3 rig, a different mobo,Q9450 and DDR3 or forget about it and spend more on a GPU.

I'm sorry but spending money on an SSD now with a rig like his is pointless as it won't bring any improvement to games whatsoever except when it comes to loading times.

HDD's don't improve gaming in any way... no matter specs.

By the way, i think everyone is underestimating the Core 2 processors. I currently use a E4300 and a Q8200, Don't need better stuff than a quad core for audio engineering, gaming, simulation, triple screen and photoshop ( sometimes :D ).

If you're upgrading it, for around 100 bucks you can get a Q6600 on ebay or something. Duo Cores go away much cheaper overall though.

I would never get AMD stuff unless it's to sell it later. Also, getting one of these new sockets ( for some reasons these dumbasses at Intel made 7 different ( ? ) sockets ) isn't smart neither, I would wait for a socket that lives a little longer.

Something that lives longer than usual for Intel means 1366 - I7 920+ family. On the other hand a decent AM3 CPU can be put into an AM3+ socket mobo once Bulldozer is out.

Get a new motherboard, stick to a MSI with.. 1366 Socket and just hit the big shot and sort out a Intel i7 950 ;) I'm lovin' it!

Except loading times, yes, really.

Stick to Asus and Gigabyte instead with 1366 - where the real clocks are.

Except for loading times, yes, really. And if he gets an SSD in such an old rig it wont change loading times anyway.

1155*
2500k's run very well at 5ghz and theyre overclockable to 4ghz with the stock cooler.
i5 2500 beats and 1366 socket I7 at stock clocks also. (Discluding 6 cores. But in gaming i5 2500k beats I7-990X any time)

That's crap and you know it. Due to chipset limitations the 1155 socket will never be as good as 1366 at anything as remotely connected to gaming as you can think as it bottlenecks powerful graphics cards. Did you notice the reccall they had on 1155 boards? That was also due to the chipset killing HDDs and slowing down over time. Also those massive clocks are achieved solely by upping the multiplier on the 1155s which is just plain retarded. They may have an immense memory bandwidth, however it doesn't employ DDR3 which is also a retarded move by Intel. Sorry but 1366 is still where it's at and anyone who says something opposite to that obviously hasn't read enough.
