PSU Noise...

Soo, I was wondering what was making a noise, had to switch each case fan off 1 by 1, and I couldnt find what was making the noise, then I thought it was the hard drive.

So now ive found out its the PSU Fan making a noise, it seems it may be the bearings in the fan that are gone, or possibly something else.
It could even be dirt in the fan or a cable, any ideas what would be causing the fan in the PSU to sound like a diesel besides bearings?

Its a Gigabyte Superb 460W PSU, had it since 2008 so I am thinking its the bearings that are going or something else...

Could be a few of these:

1 Theres a lot of dirt that is in the fan itself causing the fan / bearing to become unbalanced. This is usually the case if, when you start your computer up say after a cold boot, you hear the noise which lasts up to 5 minutes then after that there is no noise.

Remedy
Purchase some compressed air, or try to use a vacuum cleaner to remove as much dust and debris as you can. After this, try to start it up again and see what result you get.

2 Clogged Air intake - This happens when there's not enough air getting around the case or when the case is on the floor gathering up more dust than it should be.

Remedy
After you have tried the first step, if its possible, always try to have the computer on the table or at least 30cm off the ground. This way all the dust that accumulates on the floor won't gather up into your computer making it become hotter than it should and reducing airflow. If this is not convenant due to where it is, Try and make sure theres a 15cm gap all the way round the case. Sometimes computers are in cupboards, this makes a very bad area for the computer to breathe and cool itself resulting in fans overworked which in tern creates the noise you now have.

See how you fair with these above. If the noise you have has only started, these methods should quiet down the noise and hopefully prevent it from happening in the future. Its worth mentioning that this works for any fan whether or not its  computer related.

Switch it off, wait an hour, open it up and detach the fan. Put it on a cardboard box and switch it back on with the pc. If it makes the noise then get a new one, if not then replace/clean/lube the fan up.

I seem to have sorted the problem out, simple took the PSU apart, disconnected everything, cleaned everything completely and its running well.
