A criminal, generally in a criminal group, is someone who calls themselves such even when not suspected, and is recognised as such by other players.
Well that I think pretty much defines criminal in Argonath.

And we do not try to be real life, as why would you ever play real life if you have one ? We play the GTA universe, and our players should try to live in the GTA world, not the real one.

So "criminal" is when someone self-proclaims that he is one, no matter what he does in-game?

No, because of the last part of my definition which is that the majority of players must recognise him as a criminal. Ingame behaviour will control this.

So if someone starts a "criminal" group but the majority of the players calls them deathmatchers (or whatever else), they're not a criminal group?

They would still be a criminal group, just a poor one. I wasn't really thinking of that kind of thing, I meant if generally they are recognised as a business group or a group that literally does nothing. Something like i9, for example, barely qualifies as a criminal group.

Being in a large criminal group pretty much automatically makes you fit into my definition of "criminal" which was the reason for my first post. I personally don't really recognise completely ungrouped players as criminals.

A criminal is a deviant who does illegal activities as well as going against the norms of society...
A member of a criminal group is not necessarily a criminal if they can prove they did not know about the illegal activities happening.

If you know about the criminal activities in the group, then it all depends on the law of Argonath. Some countries say it is illegal if you do not report any criminal activities you know anything about, but other countries allow it, as long as you do not play a part in the crime.

You shouldn't make a topic like this without others. Anyway, being a criminal is just a label just like being a cop is a label(with scripted support). I feel criminals fall under the civilian genre. Just like police, businessmen and government officials do. The way i roleplay a criminal is by telling people i am a businessman. This is for roleplay purposes and helps keep the law off my back and keep the deathmatchers at bay.

No, they are not.

Criminal - One who knowingly participates in various crimes consistently. These are not those who go and speed all the time, shoot in the air for whoring attention, do reckless driving. Instead, they consistently (or occasionally) do a combination of all or some of participating in drug dealing, carrying out hits, rape/kidnapping/murder, and all of the other fancy stuff. One does not earn the title of a true criminal until they show they are capable of roleplaying as a criminal, rather than just doing the illegal stuff alone.

Criminals can call themselves criminals not by being suspected 24/7, and not even by doing the aforementioned crimes above, but just by being some opposition to law enforcement.

More questions:

What activities are "criminal" (that when committed, make you a "criminal")?

How does a "criminal" engage/react on police?

Criminal is someone who is intentionally bringing disruption to the state. Criminals may attack the infrastructure, or prey on civilians for money. Will do unethical things for treasure. Criminals have broken the law for purely selfish reasons.

I do not consider people to be criminals just if they are gang members, or have orange name. The reason for the crime is the most important thing. Selfish reasons for committing a crime is what I would deem being criminal.

Criminals are not looking for fame or death, they do not want to contact the cops, the real criminals are the leaders, the organizers who smartly hide and use others to commit crime for their benefit.

You shouldn't make a topic like this without others. Anyway, being a criminal is just a label just like being a cop is a label(with scripted support). I feel criminals fall under the civilian genre. = smart criminal
Criminals deal with police as if they were a slight hindrance to their plans. Will cheat their way out of possible, with least loss of profit. I'm not going to send my workers on a suicide shootout with the guns I paid for, especially with the chance that they might snitch if caught. Unless of course.... it is a last resort.

What activities are "criminal" (that when committed, make you a "criminal")?

How does a "criminal" engage/react on police?
1. Knowingly disrupting the law. This is a broad variety of activities that were mentioned before, such as drug dealing and espionage.

2. The answer very HIGHLY varies, and in fact, a lot of those answers are classified for fairly good reason. For example, if we're in the middle of trying to kidnap someone, and out of the blue, we see a cop in the distance, we will bust STRAIGHT THE FUCK OUT OF THERE. If they snitch on us, we'll just cry "SLANDER, SLANDER."

The definitions stated so far are debatable, but one thing is for sure, criminal =/= suspect.
