In the Northern area of Australia (Where I live) today at around 3.30pm an earthquake hit about 80km NW of my town. It measured 5.2 and shook some stuff up that was about it. But the strange thing is we are not in an earthquake zone.

I work in a supermarket and man our Meat fridges were going crazy, glass containers were falling and shattering. I cut my hand while trying to clean it up. This was not a usual thing for where I live, or anywhere in Australia usually.

Well, Australia's land mass is relatively close to the Indo-Australian tectonic plate, so it's not a huge shock to hear news of an earthquake occuring. Just glad that nobody was seriously injured or killed.

I'm glad that no one got hurt....

I'm also glad it was 5 magnitude only, it could have gone worse.

Well yes. Australia sits just above the northern edge of the plate. It may not be directly above it, but it'd still feel the effect should an earthquake take place.

I don't think it's the end of the world. There have always been earthquakes, however there was not always the media to report casualties and property damage by the hour.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.
