Kotaku has learned, delivering with it mammoth battles that engulf a dozen cities around the world including New York, Paris and London.

Multiple sources have shared details of the game's story, art, sounds and game modes with Kotaku, noting that the game will reshape the landscape of the Call of Duty franchise, bringing an impressive number of eclectic settings, deep multiplayer gaming and a story that ties up nearly all loose ends from previous titles, including the final moments of key figures in the series' history.
While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we've gone to great lengths to nail down as much as possible the veracity of our sources. We believe that the imagery and chief details are accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release, but this appears to be a full run down of where Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software is on Modern Warfare 3 as they add the final polishing touches.

The game opens moments after the cliffhanger ending of Modern Warfare 2 with the U.S. struggling to stave off a surprise Russian attack. The single-player campaign will ping-pong players around the world as they take on the multiple throwaway roles as a Russian Federal Protective Services agent, SAS Operative, tank gunner, and AC-130 gunner as well as key characters from previous installments and new recurring characters. The game will feature about 15 missions, kicking off with the invasion of Manhattan by a Russian force and wrapping up with a final encounter in Dubai.

The plot, as described, seems to be keeping with developer Infinity Ward's habit of delivering complex, short sequences punctuated by lots of gunfire and scene changes. The game also has players take control of several vehicles, returning gamers to the AC-130 gunship as a gunner and plopping them down in a tank as part of a U.S. Armored Division.

The single-player campaign, which appears to wrap up most of the unanswered questions and character fates of the first two Modern Warfare titles, also introduces new characters who appear to be destined for future Modern Warfare games, especially two Delta Force operatives codenamed "Frost" and "Sandman".

Multiplayer in the game returns with a chunky list of playable maps as well as two types of Spec Ops modes: "Survival" and "Mission".

Activision, the series' publisher, still hasn't officially unveiled any details about the game, though executives have said that a new Call of Duty game was coming this year. Last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch, sold more than 7 million copies in the first 24 hours and within six weeks reached $1 billion in sales.

We've contacted Activision for comment and will update the story when and if they provide reaction.

Okay so at first the Kotaku story was leaked and then Call of Duty Release this OFFICIAL teaser, which I assume was going to be shown at E3 but they have released it early do to the leak.

What do you think?

Maps

Manhattan to the catacombs of Paris, Modern Warfare 3's near-future campaign looks to be an experience that will top anything seen before in a Call of Duty game.

Multiplayer, too, seems to be shaping up to be an experience packed with new maps, experiences and ways to game.

Sources tell Kotaku that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have as many as 20 multiplayer maps, though it's unclear if some will be cut before release or perhaps sold later as expansion packs. The game will also include a powerful mix of mission-based and survival Special Ops modes. While the mission-based levels will be designed like the ones made popular in Modern Warfare 2, we're told, the survival maps will have players fighting until they're overcome by increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we believe that the imagery is accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release.

Yeah, as per usual, they bring out teasers, but hey, it only adds to the suspense and hype for when the game does come out! That's what makes you all like "zomg this is the best game eva!" and then a few weeks later everybody gets bored of it.

Either way, looks good.

Yeah sure, anyways, I think my post bugged out because I remember typing in some more stuff.

Well, since CoD1 i was like ''Damn, this shit's awesome'' all up untill Call of Duty 5.
Then MW2 came out and I was like ''Damn, gotta' play 'dis shit it's awesome''. And then I found out it hasn't been different from CoD4. So uhm, you can say i'm not getting hyped up about Call of Duty anymore. I just hope they won't keep doing the same game over and over again and bring ACTUAL change (Like CoD1-2-3->CoD4.)

Black ops was sorta different, the emblems and the different setting from MW2 made it more unique, that's the only reason why i bought it.. and that's why i ain't buying MW3.

Black Ops was a big change in terms of the way the game is presented and played, the edition of Zombies really was the thing that saved the game from being a let down because the engine was a updated CoD WAW engine.

I think what they need to do is:

- Add a lot more maps to the game from the beginning rather then offering more as map packs, this will keep the game fresh as more maps, means it'll take more time to explore all of them and get used to them because you'll be playing so many different ones, then after you can also release more maps in a pack.

- Add a larger variety of weapons, more realistic perks, more carefully thought out killstreaks.

- Being able to interact more ingame rather then always just having to shoot people, because it does get boring eventually, I'd like to see use of elevators, more zip lines, booby traps, whatever you can think of that would be more interacting and at the same time fair for all in the match.

But I'm seriously anticipating Modern Warfare 3 to the game of the year by a mile, I just have this gut feeling, especially after the success of Black Ops, now the CoD developers know what they need to do to make Modern Warfare 3 the latest best-selling game of all time, looking at the details so far it'll have a lot of content, and I wouldn't be suprised to see a major revamp of the multiplayer system.

After Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare, it failed totally with the rest of the games. Moder Warfare 2 was really bad, and I thought Black Ops was bad aswell. But this America theme seems really interesting, I hope they'll success with it. Let see what they showing us next time because this shitty teaser was really, really bad.

Well, I will have to play this game to continue and finish the story.

It's like reading a book. Once you pick it up, you can't put it down and you have to find out what happens at the end.

:ps: I'm noticing a rise in "What If" exploring United States being invaded/ attacked lately.. it's an interesting concept, how it would look like. United States hasn't had an invasion since the early years of its creation, and this is truly becoming a brainstorm for future games/ movies to take hold of this idea, to explore the "What If?" factor.

This started with a mini series "The Day After", but this hasn't given much interest until the TV show "Jericho" of a nuclear terrorist attack on 23 cities in United States. Then came the video games "World In Conflict" which imaginatively shown what would a Soviet Invasion of United States would look like. Now enter "Modern Warfare" 2 & 3, most recently.

Where must we go... we who wander this Wasteland in search of our better selves?
