How about adding IRC Channel to Argonath?
For those who don't know, IRC Channel is a channel for admins. When admins using IRC, they can ban hackers/rule brakers. IRC is like invisibleity. Admins can not be see by other players when using IRC.

Somewhat set up for 0.4, but I don't know if it's final. I never really understood the point of admin IRC channels; ask for undercover, go in, get proof, ban, and IRC is text-only, so you can't actually see the situation as a whole.

Argonath doesn't need an IRC channel, I think we have enough admins online throughout the day.

People waste their playing time on forums, they will waste 'playing' time on IRC channel.

Where there is Will, there is a Way.
Where there is Willy, I dont Know.....

Admins in IRC will be unable to witness certain vital details in several types of situations, such as a player slowly flying around the map.

An example... even with distance and speed commands, the IRC admin would conclude that a certain player is flying a skimmer at normal speed when in fact he is flying it backwards using gravity hacks. Not supported for admins.

As for players on IRC, an absolute no-no. People will abuse its chat aspect and those on IRC would not be in the game altogether.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

The only rule breakers that would be allowed to be banned by IRC are flaming....
I see no reason for this to work...

Do not roleplay a veteran on discord, be a veteran in game.

Where the server logs come in. ;)

OR those that are reported.

Not all reports may be valid though, and can't always be used as the only evidence.

Reports can't always be taken as 100% evidence. People might report for the hatred towards the other player, to avenge for something he has done to him.

We cannot rely on server logs alone. Let's say someone flew a skimmer backwards using gravity hacks, no amount of text-only commands or logs would be able to show any trace of it, assuming the hacked gravity flight was at normal speed (speed of a normal flying skimmer).

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

Not only that, but a player's lag can exaggerate their calculated speed, so a player moving normally in a Sentinel with 400 ping might be clocked at 210mph.

All-in-all, I think we can agree that we won't use IRC any time in the future.

The only uses for this would be what Gandalf mentioned, and maybe for admins to idle in IRC incase a situation unfolds or a report is received which requires one to go ingame to check it out.

No admin commands should be initiated from an IRC chat though.

When admins using IRC, they can ban hackers/rule brakers.
They need solid proof to ban hackers/rulebreakers though. The only solid proof they will get in a chat is... chat related rulebreaks such as flaming, flood & spam.

IRC is like invisibleity. Admins can not be see by other players when using IRC.
Yes, admins may be invisible to players, but, players would also be invisible to admins.

Like I said, maybe for monitoring the chat and reports from outgame, but not for initiating anything from the chat to ingame.

The only way I can see this idea working is if it were for all servers within the community, and the rights for channel administration were directly linked to the main Argo forums' board rights, but we're talking about setting something up that's next to impossible to make, and even then there's no guarantee that admins will use it. I agree that an IRC channel would be nice, but we need to focus on resolving the issues with the idea before it can ever become a reality. Any suggestions?
