For our standards it's shit.. but when you compare our rail service (yes, let's ignore the shitty bus service and the shitty tube service for now) to other countries, it's not actually all that bad.  The organisation and planning is great.. but what brings it ALL down is the delays and somewhat half-arsed service. But that's the people, not the train companies in all.

Train ticket to London is 6 euro for me, although I am using my discount since I work for the Dutch Railways! And I am sorry for all Dutch people, the tickets have to be on my name together with my identification card from my work.

BUT, I can get tickets for my "family" but I do not have a partner nor kids so I am not sure if they would believe me in that. I can pretend I am gay with two guys tho although they will be like "WTF" on the phone I guess.

Dawg on long distance try to find little stores what sell day tickets such as "Kruidvat, Blokker or Hema (even Jumbo now)". You get for around 15 till 20 euro's a day ticket.

1. You pay the half.
2. You can go through the whole Netherlands (so going there and go back just for that price)

But meh, something you know now :P
