If you don't like players being "money hungry" - pay them to do role-play jobs/missions. That way you make people role-play, while others achieve their goal of earning financial security.

This is GTA after all - my personal advice is to take inspiration from GTA1/GTA2 missions and give similar scenarios to new players.

Play for fun and friendship, not for stats or achievements.
If you do not want to roleplay, log off. Remember that "do not force RP" does NOT mean you can refuse to interact with other players.

I think you misunderstood what he actually meant
Quote
Robert_DiMaria: Argonath isn't money, it's having fun and friendship
F.T.P_OutLaW: ye but so many gangs always want to f**k u up

I think what he really wanted to say is that when you are having fun, some gang manage to fuck it up

I'd say take inspiration from all the GTAs, but 9r2e5i3k is right. Also understand that, the more players you give missions the harder it is to control them and the more you have to be able to think on your feet.
Beside that remember that /me is your best friend when making some extra characters who do follow your each order.

And we do not try to be real life, as why would you ever play real life if you have one ? We play the GTA universe, and our players should try to live in the GTA world, not the real one.

Have you ever thought about the fact that everyone's different Einstein? Maybe someone spends a nice time earning or being in a group while others find it enjoyable to be a normal citizen or a cop? For once stop telling people how to play! There is no "right" way.

Money is a means to an end (getting things for yourself), not the end goal itself. It is also supposed to serve as a means of helping other players, not a tool to control them or cause conflict.

As what the other older veterans have mentioned in this topic, a source of stability for newer players could be the older players themselves. This also goes for rich players who have nothing to spend their money on; why not hire some poorer players to do jobs for you? You may even meet some good friends in the process.

As an added bonus, if the jobs you make them do are fun and / or memorable, then there is a chance they would continue to remember you. For example, I hired some players (after screening them out from a gunfight to-the-death event) to help me transport the corpse of the First Pope from San Fierro Cathedral (RP of course, since there is no actual scripted corpse) to another location. Until today, they still remember that particular event not because it got them money, but because they had fun doing it.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

Is it true some clans / gangs limit role play / fun of individual members simply because it wouldn't fit the Gang / family / clan view?

I heard a case where someone must ask for permission to change there name, to join any group.
I think this is bad...

They should be offering a place to do a certain bit of fun, let there members go off for a bit and do something else, of course if they don't also submit to there clan/group then ask them to leave :).

I do agree with Ryan in the respect that people are all different...we don't all want to do the same things, and we enjoy different aspects of the community.

For me, as Julio/Joe also said...money is there to benefit me when required. I have what I want (apart from a certain sexy mansion by Richman) assets-wise, and can sell and change whenever I want.

Just noticed that you two always post after one another. The only time I've seen tit broken was in Gnadalfs Birthday topic by Murt.

Money in the game doesn't bother me whatsoever, if i have it that's ok if i don't that's ok too. I'm not fussed.
