I had a girlfriend who said that I should not ever bring her any flowers because she finds it disgusting. Too soft for her or something. And from my view I would suggest him to just go for it. Waiting and trying to get everything to be like perfect in the moment has high chances to fail as if you have planeed something and it does not happen as you thought you wll just panic. Live in the moment and when moment feels right just ask. I think you know her well enough after 14 years to know the moment.

When he says 14 years, I think this is a girl he grew up with. Regardless, being physical doesn't make you "together". It just means that you are trusting each other enough for that. It doesn't necessarily mean any love is involved. That's why I suggested he make it something official first. Some girls and guys out there just prefer to be "****-buddies" instead of dealing with the emotional stuff that comes with a relationship. It's sad, but true, and often one side will fall for the other in the process, which ruins the relationship if both sides don't feel the same way. I'd hate to see that happen to him if it were the case, which is why I recommended the official side of things.

Now, if it does turn out they have been in a relationship the entire time throughout this, then I wish him the best of luck and I honestly do hope all goes well. I'm not saying he shouldn't marry her. I just don't want to see him get hurt in case he misinterpreted anything. Love is an amazing thing, but it's also capable of causing a great deal of pain...something I never wish to see friends experience with it.
