Mac is just commercial UNIX, right. Macs/Linux-powered machines can't really get infected but can instead be used as carriers for Windows viruses to spread them from one Windows PC to another.

Yes, point-blank. Just because you're not a "nerd hardcore downloader" doesn't mean you shouldn't have some type of protection. Think of it like sex. If a girl tells you she's not a slut hardcore sex freak does that mean you won't put a raincoat on? Think of AV as a condom for your PC. You have to protect your PC when you put it in the internet (pun intended xD).

The only exception to this is Linux.
