Question about laptop charger.

The charger that I used to use for my Lenovo laptop doesn't work anymore, and I wanted to order one from the internet it as it much cheaper. I just have a few questions on the charger.

The adapter that I used and that is now broken was an ACDC Adapter, Model: ADP-65kh B, Lenovo P/N: 36001646, Input: 100-240v~1.5A(1.5A)50-60Hz, Output: 20V 3.25A(3.25A).

Adapter that I seen have the following:
Input: 100-240V ~ 1.5A 50/60Hz
Output: 20V 4.5A
Packing: Bulk
Incl. Power cable from Kenic with EU plug (1.8 m, 2-pin, VDE fillersforms certified)
Invoice on your behalf with proven VAT (only for items purchased TUPower)

I don't quite understand what 2.5a or stuff like that is, so does anyone know what are the main things that need to match for the adapter to work for my computer? Or can explain what is compatible. And does the adapter also have to be ACDC, or does it matter if it's only AC or DC?

The Output Voltage matches with the original, although due to the Output Amperage (4.5A) being higher than the original Amperage (3.25A), it will not work, in short terms, it will work for a while, like a couple of days or hours, but it will burn out your laptops battery and power system.
You must match the Output Voltage and Amperage in order to not cause serious hardware damage.
Unfortunately you will have to try find an exact match to the original, also remember the "plug" that connects to the laptop must be the same, as well as the polarity of the plug.

Can the Output Amperage be a bit lower or higher, as well as the Output Voltage? If so, how much of a difference can it be? I can't find any of the exact match on Amazon, and on ebay I can't buy it there.

It may be possible to run with a slightly different Amperage/Voltage, although I would highly suggest against it, as the components are designed to run at specific power levels they won't run efficiently/properly with a different Amperage/Voltage level and in the long run will damage the components inside of the laptop.
The only way to use another charger would be to get one with the exact same power output levels (Amperage/Voltage) to prevent damaging the laptop.

For example, running the laptop which is designed to be powered at 3.25Amps, if you had to run it at 4.5Amps, components would be running under greater strain and at higher temperatures above what they were designed for, thus damaging the laptop itself and the battery.

As far as the voltage is same and the amps are at least as high as the old one, you can use it. Your laptop won't withdraw that 3.25A unless it is being charged and stressed to the max.
Having a charger with higher output amps only tells it's capability, it's not like it's outputting that amount of current at all times, like some of you may think. :roll:

Using a charger with difference voltage is not advisable.
Long story short, here is how it goes:

Lower voltage than required = Bad
Higher voltage than required = Bad
Less amps than required = Bad
More amps than required = No matter

Those scenarios marked with 'bad' will most likely end up with frying the charger or in the worst case the entire laptop's power unit.

You should never use chargers with different voltage ratings, as voltage is what the application runs with, altering with it may have dramatic consequences.
A charger with lower ampere output than required results in the charger frying, as the laptop is trying to withdraw more current through the charger than it is capable of.
A charger with higher ampere output however works just fine, as the laptop only withdraws as much current as it needs, which is less than the charger is capable of putting out.

Thanks Icy, I was wondering the same since I had used one of my friend's charger, but his was for several types of laptops. On the charger it stated from 2-4.7A.

Hi Antonio,
If there is one thing I know about using different chargers, whether for a laptop or any other electronic device, it is that sooner or later, when there is a difference in voltage(and it will not be noticeable to us without an amp meter thingy really), your laptop will go bust. Always advice to buy the OEM charger, if not that, a charger with the exact specifications as on the original. I would highly advice against a 'compatible' charger, as they normally have one or more of those specifications being different from the original.

That is, unless ofcourse, you are looking for a new laptop  :devroll:

if the Charger beeps it meanshe wires are screwed inside and you will have to get a new one or there may be a way to fixit.
