[FIXED]Slow internet on NEW PC with Win7

Hi, so I ordered a PC and it arrived yesterday. All looks good, etc. but apparently I have serious internet problems on it. While several speedtests tell me that my internet on the PC is perfectly normal and fast, I hardly can browse anything. I tried putting off Firewall, stlll same problems. My network is WIRED, so a bad location of the router, etc. mustn't be a problem. For now, I still don't have an antivirus on it and I think Windows is blocking the net because I don't have one. Technically I do, but I have to get online, download it and activate it with a license that I have, but I still need to use the net to get the program. Downloading doesn't even work at all. Any ideas what the cause might be/solutions are VERY appreciated as I'm completely out of them...

well given the fact the speed tests are providing good status, sort of rules out a network card issue. Try downgrading (if you use IE) and then re-install the browser. If you use modern browsers like firefox, chrome etc, try removing them and then reinstalling them.

Lastly, never use the internet to "browse" with out an antivirus. Thats like going to a college party without a condom

Are you sure there are no programs attempting to update or something of the sort? Like windows updates for example.

Ah, good point. Since it is a new laptop, you'll need to ensure you've updated your operating system to date, as well as drivers. While the PC comes with these drivers already, new drivers (like the one for your network adapter). Luckly, Windows update can get you most modern drivers.

as you can see here from the main screen. You'll see "# optional updates...".



Simply click that button, and see if any new driver updates are available. Do be cautious of driver updates for video, some of the windows driver installations for video have been known to cause serious problems. It'd be best to grab video drivers from your manufactures site. But the rest of the drivers should be updated.

Nvm, apparently my network cable was fucked. Using wireless now and everything is fine. Thanks for the quick replies anyways!
