Only last week the site was taken down by a large DDOS attack, in the wake of this it has become aware that multiple governments were behind the attacks, and as of the 7th, the Ukraine Government moves in for the final blow, taking the site and their owners down.

This site, one of the most trusted and secure was not like other sites, this one was a membership based, and to become a member you had to be invited.

Ukraine investigators showed up at the datacenter where the site was hosted, order the company to terminate the contract and copied all the data from the site off of it. (including my information :( ). This was apparently only days after the deputy prime minster for the Ukraine visited the United States on the topic of copyright infringement.

So, shit.
Luckily, I doubt any thing will happen to normal users since they aren't the ones who are actually sharing the content.

piracy sites

Trackers. Torrent trackers. While Demonoid, without a doubt, did host pirated content, there was still some amount of completely legal file sharing going on.

Demonoid, nor any other torrent sites host any material. They merely link to it. And not even link, to be exact. They link the user to other users that may or may not have a certain part of a certain file, based on hashes.

Problem with the sites is that most countries hold them liable due to "intentional facilitating the distribution of copyrighted content".

Just my 2 cents.

By running a torrent tracker, they facilitated the file sharing. Sites like The Pirate Bay use torrent files and are moving toward eliminating those and just using magnet links so they host virtually no files. They did run a tracker, though it was shut down years ago.

Since TPB does not actively run a tracker, it should be legal for them to operate. However, lobby groups continue to advocate for shutting down entire sites that merely operate as search engines, yet Demonoid is not just a search engine.

Then they should start trying to shut down Google too. Look for any music album or film with "rapidshare" or "blogspot" or whatever at the end on Google and you will get dozens of results pointing to pirated content.

The "Pirate Bay" trial made this argument. The charges for copyright infringement against the operators were dropped. For some reason they were still charged with "helping make available" copyrighted content. So yes, someone should start trying to shut down Google.

The difference is that Google stores your data and sends it to the US government.

Your country is part of the EU, where the large corporations who control copyright are lobbying strongly to get control over internet. Do not think you will be excused for being a poor East-European....

Are you kidding me? The EU is considered Italy, Germany, UK and some other countries, no-one really gives a damn about Lithuania. Here, we can pirate stuff as much as we want and no-one will give a damn. You can even go to the market and buy counterfeit games if you want..
