I was just pointing out the fact that NYPD does have tasers, yet I understand that he means not all of them have and not specifically NYPD but it's irrelevant anyway.

I myself said that tasers should not be used on suspects with knives, as it's more likely they'll stab themselves from the spasms created by the shock.

What do you expect them to do? Say "drop the knife" and just follow him until he stabs someone or himself? Judging by how far he was able to walk with it in an aggressive stance, he had plenty of warning.

I would think that like here tasers are few and far between. For the officers the thing to do in this situation is to use something which they all have - a firearm.

One man with a knife, and about 30 policemen, they can arrest him blindfolded.
No reason to shoot the man.

Getting tased with 50.000 volts leads to muscle spasms, which can cause accidents such as stabbing yourself. However there are other methods to stop him, we are not exactly aware of what happened during or split seconds before the shooting.

Not actually true. Knives can sometimes be more lethal than bullets because they can cause even more injury on removal.
