This is how we deal with a similar incident.

30 UK Police vs man armed with machete in the street.

Exactly how it should have happened.

You obviously have no idea of how a taser works, I'll not bother again explaining.

Even though it seems like it's standard protocol to shoot knife wielding suspects in US, we should not bother continuing this topic

Police Shoot Man Over 40 Times (Video)
If American cops didn't have guns, America would be a safer place..
Honestly though American cops are more trigger happy than the armed suspects they chase.

Why do you need guns when someone is using a melee weapon? Use tasers, pepper spray and police dogs.

DENIED

Or could it be the fact that your trying to explain things from a cops perspective and yet your not and if I remember right you even failed the basic entrance test to even apply for a cop.
You remembered wrong. I never failed any entrance test. Why else would I have been in the police academy? Way to provoke there with false facts buddy. Just thought you'd like to know that there also is no such thing as an entrance test. You watch too many movies. ;)

And actually yes...a cop's perspective would likely be the correct one to use here since this incident is about cops shooting someone.

Humans aren't trained to be humans. Police are trained to carry out Law Enforcement work.

In the case of that video where the police dealt with the machete-armed man, the area was a section of the street, where the immediate vicinity of the suspect was cleared of all people except for the cops and the suspect himself.

However, in New York City, you have an area where there can be hundreds (if not, thousands) on a city block, even on a normal day. With the distance that the knife-wielding man traveled and the amount of victims he could have stabbed, simply distracting him, getting him to chase you around a police car, or waiting for a SWAT team to arrive is not a very practical option.

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

I understand that however im not questing why to shoot someone, im trying to ask why its acceptable to gun a man down, there wasnt just 1 gunshot there was multiple Shooting someone and gunning them down like the cops did are two different things, it jut goes to show you the first reaction to gun shots is to shoot back, and thus i throw into question there training and professionalism but all i get back is replys like "Well if i was that  cop and I do this ETC" and "In this county we would do this" lets face it we can all throw in our own words for thoes phrases. Im not here to play what I would have done because Im not a cop, what I know is that this could have been done better instead of making this seem like a day in idlewood in Argo, the oficer who shot could have shot the man in a non lethal area and there wouldnt need to continues gun fire unless this guy was like Rambo and just wont go down, however even then Tazers could have worked but Mr. D here would comment saying "OH to many people to control no one taking lead" blah blah, this leads back to Training and Professionalism the two things I AM really calling into question with the NYPD.

Ofcourse! That's because you sit infront of your PC with your face stuck in a forum playing wire knight in the forums, while i was riding my moped. And to drive a moped, you need to have a license over here. So shut your mouth, stand up and do something useful with your life.

I will go commit a crime, get away with it and brag in a forum about how I escaped the police. I think that will make me useful and so proud, because you know how my daily life is, right :(? It's funny to see how you get offended so easily, almost like teasing a baby with candy, always works with people like you. Good luck finding a job or anything else when you grow up kid.

I know this is not related to the specific situation, but I thought I'd leave it here rather than create another similar topic.

Another shooting has occured in the US, this time taking place in a New Jersey supermarket.

"A fatal shooting appears to have taken place at a supermarket in the eastern US state of New Jersey.

Local media and police officials said that at least three people died in the incident, including the gunman.

An official told Associated Press that the shooting happened in the early hours of Friday in Old Bridge, a suburb about 25 miles (40km) from New York."
