I always prefer a scale that places belief in a deity (Theism/Atheism) as non-mutually exclusive with your conviction in that belief (Non-Agnostic/Agnostic).
No rational person is 100% sure that there is a god, or 100% sure that there isn't (as there is no evidence to *completely* prove or disprove either position). As it goes, almost all atheists are agnostic in their belief, while most theists are not.

Anyway.. if anything, the closest description to Mikal's "nothing" is that of an agnostic who does not care even slightly about whether there is or is not a deity. Given that he is a young British person with internet access, and based off his comments on the forum and in this thread, my best guess would suggest that he is actually an atheist. Everyone is one or the other; as JDC said: you cannot be neither.

Well thats impossible, since before the big bang there was no time, there was nothing apart from a giant void filled with gas clouds, if there was nothing before the big bang and there was no time, how could there have been a creator? It's impossible.

IMO religion is just something forced on the new generations by their parents who were also forced into religion by their parents, or not forced but brought up round it until science was all bullshit and religion was correct, to them anyway, honestly I don't care what you believe, if you want to believe in religion and that god made everything you go ahead and do that, everyone has their own beliefs, and my belief is that 'god' was just the answer for things that the ancient human race couldn't explain such as shooting stars, earthquakes, solar eclipse's and other natural events.

It's like the current situation, a non-religious personal see's a light in the sky and the first thing to come to mind is 'UFO' - Unidentified Flying Object, which is usualy asumed to have aliens or some bullcrap inside, when UFO just means something thats flying that you can't identify, anyway it's like that, humans can't explain something so they will make something up in order to cure their curiosity, it's just the way I see things so by all means, continue to follow your religion if you believe in it.

How do you know, or they know, that there is a void or used to be a void before the big bang and outside of the universe? If it was a void as you/they said, then nothing should have existed as it was all empty. hence we shouldn't be here in the first place. Every created things has a creator. There is always a source for any type of energy.
