Wow, let's test.

Let's all pray to god to stop wars, desease, poverty and all that is not good for mankind and the world.

If that solves our problem, I'll become a priest right away.

Im not catholic or christian, i dont believe in gods way, i believe in valhalla, i believe more that Odin , Thor, Loki , Frey, Freya , Idun , Sif and Hel

Woot my name is Loki! :D

no thats the only thing i disagree with the bible on

Correct me if i'm wrong here, but then by your own rules aren't you going to hell? :devroll:

And now for my own opinion, luckily as far as i've read i'm not just repeating things people have been saying.

Basically, it went like this, i was religious for a while, when very young, praying things would happen and even seeing them happen in my eyes but as i leant closer to the scientific view i found that not praying made no difference to my life. In a way this kind of disheartened me and so i basically phased out god altogether.

From then, i met a lot of people with a lot of different opinions, learn't a lot of history and found myself to really dislike everything i heard about most aspects of religion, I very much agreed with Luca there and was very anti-god, anti-Christian and especially anti-Roman catholic. I understand now that it is wrong to assume all people of one religion are the same but at the time that's how it seemed and my experiences with religious people, christians especially was horrible. As i went to a Christian school it was constantly shoved down my throat whether i liked it or not and it was highly conservative, constantly judging people for being different. No matter how much the bible says things, no way can you say discrimination is just or right.

But now, I'm more mellow, I realised that really i should be concentrating on whats going on now, not what's going to happen when i die or whats going on metaphysically, whilst i still dont believe in god i've realised that the time i spend wasting on contemplation on such things, i could be enjoying the short time i've got here. Whilst it may sound foolish I dont want to plan ahead for the future, i'd rather cross those bridges as they arrive and without spending my time on planning I can fully appreciate everything that goes on now, free from worry of the future or anything like that. In terms of life after death it's the same, I'll see once i die what happens, so why worry now when theres a massive chance you're going to be wrong anyway.

And as for religion, there are 6 major religions and countless smaller ones, what's to say yours is right? Theres no way you can be 100% certain yours is right because for the reasons you believe in one, others will use those reasons to believe in another.

Imagine how bad it would be to devote your life to, for example, Islam, only to find yourself going to hell because Christians were right all along. That would sure be a bummer

So for those reason's, to immortalize the great prophet Bobby Mcferrin  "Dont Worry, Be happy!"

But of course If you're happy with religion or without, then you're sorted for life, in my humble opinion of course :D

Dont Mock It, Its Insulting For Christians...

It will work, if you keep praying.

Yes.. I believe that the Virgin Mary had sex, but covered it up and said the baby came out of no where. He grew up believing what his mother said that he was a miracle and he could do them, when he did some on people it only looked like he did. Anyways, I was thinking about how living things came to be on Planet Earth. How? Just think in logical and scientific ways to answer, because we are Human we are flawed and anything we create is also flawed so to think that God created everything for real is just crap thinking. But really what made all the animals and then us appear? Whats the reason of Humans on this planet? Are we the only ones in the universe or space? I think we can't be, whats all this space for then? For Humans to explore and conquer? It doesn't make any sense, so I think that Aliens engineered us or maybe we are from another planet and came here to escape something. But it still doesn't explain all the animals either.. so maybe aliens put us here to test us or something? Its evolution, the only logical thinking of how we got here.

How much should we pray to stop the violences in the world? The popes are praying since 2003 for the end of the violences in Iraq.

Lets use Iraq as example, the war and the victims (Civilians and Military)

Military Victims (11 June 2007)

USA: 3.798 Casualities and 27.753 wounded
United Kingdom: 170 Deaths
Italy : 33 Casualities
Poland: 21 Casualities
Ucraine: 18 Casualities
Bulgaria: 13 Casualities
Spain: 11 Casualities

If we include the Contractors (Mercenaries), the Saddam Army, the New Iraqi Army, the Republican Guard, the Iraqi Police Forces, the Journalists, the terrorists, and the suicides..and the civilians... we are talking about hundreds of thousands of people...someone says 420.000...someone 790.000. But we are not counting animals or dollars, we are talking about human lifes.

In 4 years nobody has stopped the violences in Iraq, neither the pope, the prays, and the god, and the diplomats.
Im not saying that this is god fault (is another discussion), but im saying the prays and the religion are useless as they proved in this example.

And im not mentioning the 2 Balcan Wars, the WW2, the Vietnam war, the Korea War, the never ending conflict around Israel...

In 100 Years of praying nothing has stopped the wars and the violences.

And about the Hell topic. If somebody ask me What would you choose between: "One day God woke up and said: lets create 2 humans and restrict the only apple tree on the planet" or "Thousands of years ago an alien has came and started acting like a god to enslave humans, and people really beleived it was a god"...well, even if they both looks extremly weird ...i would choose the second option.

So you believe the instant you finish your prayers, you expect it to be over?

Instead of praying, people should do something to actually help. Like Luca said, prayers didn't help a thing, we should go out and protest in favor of peace. I know that it usually doesn't work, but we can put pressure on government.

One proof of that is here in Brazil: People from different realities, places, ages, etnies united to protest against the militar dictatorship: Some got beaten, some got tortured, some died like heroes. But in the end, we did it.

If everyone prayed, even forever, we would be still under a severe dictatorship. Without the freedom that everyone likes.

Think about that.

Bin Laden is not a nation. Chase him as a man.

Whatever Bush did, the prayers didn't change the situation or saved any life. Not the life of those hundreds of thousands of people.

Anyway don't go off topic...we don't need a scientist to say that 790.000 casualities are the result of a failure and not of a peace or democratic mission.

The world is not property of the USA or Bush, so we all have the right to say our opinions even if we live in Africa, Europe, Asia or else...

However i think the discussion is over, it was interesting yes... so i lock the topic to prevent flames and insult about politics (Which is not an easy topic like Religion)
