Quote
Multiple gunshots and at least three concussion grenades were fired at a Jack in the Box restaurant on Folsom Boulevard where a gunman has been barricaded with at least one hostage.

A woman, apparently an employee of the restaurant, rushed from the store at about 3:43 p.m. after the gunfire, where she was met by several Sacramento Police officers, who rushed her to safety behind the building.

Medical personnel and police officers are at the scene did not immediately enter the building, but police said that the suspect had been shot.

The gunman had been inside the Jack in the Box since about 12:30, when Sacramento police responded to the scene after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress.

Police said that the gunman was barricaded inside with two female hostages. At about 2:45, one of the women was released and escorted away by officers. Police have not yet identified the woman.

After arriving on the scene, police cordoned off much of the College Greens Shopping Center, which is anchored by a Raley's store, and blocked off Folsom Boulevard from Florin Perkins Road to Howe Avenue.

Sacramento police spokesman Officer Doug Morse said the apparent hostage situation began when "Sacramento police responded to a robbery with an armed suspect," at 12:32 p.m. Morse said the suspect was attempting to rob the Jack in the Box.

Police originally said that they thought there was one employee inside with the gunman, but later said there were two female hostages.

Dozens of officers are on the scene, including a SWAT team and hostage negotiators.

ESCAPE: A police sniper fires and a hostage flees - Jack In the Box hostage situation in Sacramento

I was there when this happened and I must say, it's pretty mind-blowing. I even felt the explosions rip across the area as the concussion grenades went off at the end, and I was right across from the Fire Department's Station, which was next to the parking lot ironically, as they rolled out with their lights on after the suspect was downed.

Here is an update to the situation now that it's over: http://blogs.sacbee.com/crime/archives/2012/12/gunman-in-jack-in-the-box-standoff-identified.html

There was yellow tape up and down the street for miles. You couldn't get anywhere near the area unless you cut in through the parking lot's side entrance near the FD like I did. CHP was redirecting cars to turn around, and both Sacramento Police and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department were on-scene. Throughout the whole incident as it unfolded, I even got to see a bomb squad robot be escorted towards the restaurant in front of me, as well as witnessing a Mobile Command/HQ truck drive by in a convoy with an unmarked van, police cruiser, and a number of other code 3 vehicles. The number of officers on-scene was pure insanity too. There must have been a few hundred of them easily. The Fire Department's Battalion Chief was even parked just down the street, and he very rarely goes to that Station because it's so small.

They took absolutely no chances with this incident...

Placing a gun ban which criminals will not follow isn't much help anyway, and you can also expect illegal arms dealers to earn a lot more than they already do. Better to go down with a fighting chance than be shot to death helpless and unable to do anything about it.

Regardless, such cases of standoffs and shootouts are not any less dangerous regardless of the gun laws. It's relieving that the suspect was downed before he could harm any more than he already has.

As for the topic, when I first saw the title the image that came to mind was a stand off with an actual Jack-in-the-box. :poke:

The most important part is interacting with others and meeting people from around the world.

America fucked up by letting the country have such relaxed gun laws in the first place, it's a fuckup they CANNOT fix since everybody seems to have a gun over there, if you take the guns off civilians and cops it would allow criminals to use guns more freely, so no I'm not suggesting they ban guns, I'm saying they fucked up in the first place and created a problem they cannot solve.

There have been arguments about gun laws many times on this forum, and the ignorance on the subject is astounding. There is evidence going both ways on the subject, but for those who failed to read before replying, this incident took place in California...the strictest state on gun-related laws in the entire country. The laws here are so strict, in fact, that if you become a Law Enforcement Officer before you are 21, but are over 18, then you have to be granted a special legal exception to even carry your duty weaponry, because handguns aren't allowed to be owned by anyone in California until you are at least 21 years old. They make no exceptions for family transfers or out-of-state movers.

This is not a subject that needs to be brought up again, so I suggest instead of discussing politics, which isn't allowed here, you guys talk about the news article. I'm really not in the mood to begin moderating people because they don't want to follow the rules. This is not directed at just one person either.

In modern life everything is politics and religion, saying it's not allowed is just telling people to stay mute..

You're right, but the person that does make the rules has dedicated a whole topic to political and religious talk in this very board.. :poke:

Then go complain to them. They own the forum, as you said. It's their rules, not mine.

It's not just about laws.
There is a fundamental problem in Americans' culture. It's too focused on weapons.

It has a lot to do with it. What's the point on opening a discussion if you can't discuss?
