To prevent temptation.

If men can't hold themselves them it's their fault. Not women's fault if they are monkeys.

It not stupid, it has wisdom behind it which contributes to many societies till today.

Elaborate.

It also a tradition in certain Arab countries.

A wrong, oppressive, sexist tradition.

Your view. Local Arabs in the country i live in, prefer to dress in tradition clothes rather than western such as jeans and what else. Same as tradionatal Arab men, who wear long sleeved garments called Thwab/Thobe. Very sexist and oppressive tradition against men indeed... You have no rights neither any other men in telling what a women should wear or not. :)

Should i also put in how the French government, or should i say men, banned the wearing of scarfs/hijab? Basically men telling what women shouldn't wear.

I'm speechless. It's insane.
No, it's not. Wearing full body condoms is part of their tradition, and as long as they are not forcing women in other countries to wear those I don't see the problem.

Once again, this is not a tradition. They are forcing women to wear these clothes.

Disallowing women to look at men is also tradition? Mutaween also tradition?

Totally agree , If someone belongs to a tradition or we say religious tradition then he or she has to follow it.

Unfortunate that the implication is due to the minority who behave disrespectfully, a whole gender has to brace themselves for the impact. Making it optional would leave it to one's own discretion.

There are scriptures which suggest how people of the two genders should dress and conduct themselves, but in the current society and the altogether changing world things cannot always be applied as they might have been done years ago.

No one belongs to a tradition. It's the tradition that may belong to you. Therefore you can force no one to follow any traditions.

Rules should have very low power on ethical things like this..

That's just an excuse to mantain the "control" over women.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - A Saudi cleric

Saudi Arabia's religious police[/font]

Typical religion.

Just reminder of what islam has influenced before.

"A couple arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of killing their 15-year-old daughter with acid say they carried out the attack because she looked at a boy."

There is a reason I disagree with imposing religious views on others.

Temptation? What temptation? Men get a hard on just by seeing a woman's face in such societies?

You're only doing the exact opposite of what you're trying to achieve to be honest, if women in normal clothes becomes common, it'll be normal for everyone, now if you decide to keep something under cover, ofc people will have temptation to see that.

Huh? Most men don't give a second eye on covered women such as nuns. Secondly, just to clarify, women can cover their face if they wish so, there is no commandment that tells them to cover their face. Men CAN get unwanted desires if they see a beautiful women, whether it be their face or their body or all together, it's a fact. That why, it's commanded for men to lower their gazes, whether it be a normally dressed women according to western society or if they see a beautiful faced women.

Yes, girls dressed in skimpy clothes or barely at all is very common, no men would get tempted by looking at them. Hmm hmphh.....

And? They're so troglodyte that they can't hold their instinct? It must be like that if women are covered.. it's a fact!

This mentality really worries me. I know that many societies/religions are still crossing the Stone Age, but please, we're in 2013, wake up!

It is true that the full dress is based on tradition. However that tradition has nothing to do with religion. People who use this are originating from desert tribes. When traveling through the desert, the wind will blow sand that penetrates about everything and can make someone uncomfortable.
By wearing a full thick dress that covers everything the sand would not get through. And dark colours are very effective against the heat as well as the cold.
Men, being in general less caring about skin and comfort, would still cover their face as the current desert tribes still do.

This tradition has set in to those religions still living under desert thoughts.

Do not roleplay a veteran on discord, be a veteran in game.
