99% of the debt was caused by the war situations too. Bush, (the second one), was a horrible President for the country. He took us from a multi-billion dollar surplus to a multi-trillion dollar deficit in a matter of 4-8 years. Seeing the military just follow along with the "too bad for you, I don't care" policy that Bush had is quite horrific to see happening to our soldiers. First, most of them are killed in combat, then the ones who survive get screwed on their paychecks, and get a middle finger for doing their jobs. It's just disgusting to see...

Yes, cleaning up the mess left behind. Considering he walked into a near-Depression, I'd say he did pretty good. The country was already in debt when he showed up. He didn't tank it like the previous guy did.

Imagine you had a nice chateau by the time of 1999-2000, then owners changed and the chateau became a shithole. When the owner changed and had no money, he still had this shithole he had to work with.
