"When we released our very first game, Game Dev Tycoon (for Mac, Windows and Linux) yesterday, we did something unusual and as far as I know unique. We released a cracked version of the game ourselves, minutes after opening our Store.

I uploaded the torrent to the number one torrent sharing site, gave it a description imitating the scene and asked a few friends to help seed it."

I wonder why Matt missed out the information about why they did it, as it is pretty relevant

Developer did it with a little glitch hidden inside the game - people who download the pirated version play the game alright until the very moment where a player gets a message that the first video game their company will start selling will be pirated - thus making the company bankrupted and losing the game, forcing to start over.

Meh, I pirate all the time, but then again, I pirate games I would never buy had piracy never been created, I just pirate them to give em a go I guess, but you know, games I truly love and will play for hours I do indeed buy.

Really sends another message about how DRM can literally save a company, even though people hate it. (SimCity) - Those numbers for the cracked version were stunning.
