It wasn't really the first time I ever witnessed a DDoS attack in action(even on other servers). I didn't really complain, I simply close everything on my desktop, open up Team Fortress 2 and capture some points. :redface:

Even with the countless of donations (which were explicitly requested by gandalf himself in order to keep the server online) and ad-money, very little action has been taken to increase the server's security or to switch to a more stable host as it seems. Correct me if I'm wrong but imo the frustration is understandable. So for all the robots and parrots repeating the same thing over and over again ("dont like? leave", "then donate",...), I suggest you keep that in mind.

A few members of the community once calculated the estimated cost of all the servers Argonath runs. Believe me when I say that those "countless donations" are not even a small percentage of the monthly costs.

And Gandalf (and Aragorn if I'm correct) pay for this to allow you to play [along with donators]. They spend their money so you can enjoy yourself.

Sure, it's frustrating if you cannot play but think of it from a diffirent perspective. You're showing very little respect. And as long as you don't pay the monhtly bill, then in my opinion, you have no call whatsoever in discussing security for the server.

So until you have donated, I suggest you start thinking about the bigger picture instead of your own interests.

Or, to put it in your words:

Countless is an understatement. I did some estimated calculations last month, and Argo easily spends a few thousand a year on webhosting alone. That does not include any of the other services, such as game servers, licenses, equipment rentals, other costs, etc.

You're talking about massive costs for the Server Owners, on top of their own lives and families. Everyone should be grateful and consider themselves lucky.

It would be fine if it happens sometimes, but this is continuous. Other communities are doing fortunes of money with things like donations, ranks on forum, in-game phone numbers, the opportunity to change your forum name and stuff, while we are sleeping.
